Singer David Bowie has died at the age of 69 following a battle with cancer.

His son director Duncan Jones confirmed the news and a statement was released on his official social media accounts.

"David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer," it said.

"While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family's privacy during their time of grief."

The singer only released his latest album Blackstar on his birthday on Friday.

There had been rumours about Bowie's health for years.

His last live performance was at a New York charity concert in 2006.

Omg now who am I going to listen to, damn so sad.
There is a movie I believe it's called labyrinth with David Bowie. That movie was good and there is one sound track that I really enjoyed. I heard it in a store once and just started rocking out. Haha good times.

Awww RIP David Bowie (Brownie)

He was one of those artists I never really associated by name, but would always hear his music and feel like I was drifting through the 70s

i remember he was a packed 12th house (sun/moon venus) and it does make sense that he doesn't want any publicity on this which is why no one knew about his struggle with cancer for so long. (unlike some celebs, ie. lance armstrong ect)

read some articles on him today:

This was my biggest musical influence, ever.

I have Aquarius Rising just like him. I always reflected on his lyrics, while often being quite cryptical, dealing with alienation and feeling like an outsider, something I have always been able to relate to, being aloof, not quite there, an outsider just watching. Being not like the others, having a need for being different and standing apart.
Maybe it was just a teenage fantasy, but this comforted me during my teenage years, and for the past 15 years he has been my hero.

I can't even begin to explain the shock this morning, reading about his death. It was literally the first thing I saw when I woke up.
I thought it was a cruel joke.

I've never been one for hero worshipping, or fangirling around, but this is the closest I get to it.
I never thought I'd cry for a celebrity, they always seemed too remote, and death is hard enough to understand for me as it is, but I have been crying all morning.

Thank you for everything, David. You meant a lot to me 😭

I'm grateful, as well as heartbroken. This guy gave me more joy than some of my ex boyfriends ever did. I liked everything about him, beautiful freak. My favourite Capricorn, quirkyer than an Aqua.
