Okay lets stop this shit right now.

First off, They as a singular pronoun has been in consistent use as such since about the 1300's according to academics and Merriam-Fucking Webster.

The use of the word 'they' as a nonbinary pronoun is frankly needed. It has always been needed and would actually put English at parity with many other major WESTERN and Eastern/Near East languages such as French, German, Swedish, Icelandic, Greek, Hebrew (you know the official language of the Jews...the same Jews who kinda made Christianity) Spanish and Portuguese, Russian and trust the list goes on.

The same dictionary states that evidence in their files of the nonbinary use of they dating back to 1950, and contends confidently that likely there are earlier uses of the nonbinary pronoun they out there.

This article revises hundreds of years of English convention in pursuit of a nonsense stance that isn't based in reality and fact.

plz enlight me, what neutral pronoun do spanish speaking people use.

as far as I know, romance languages have gender specific nouns matched by the gender specific pronoun

even if there is a old, pronoun, if nobody uses it, is pretty much dead, that's why they is ridiculous

lmao what!? 😆

that only means cone, there's also coño, but no!!! 😠

anyway. truth is, you can't use a neutral pronoun in spanish, and pretty sure most romance languages, almost all noun have a gender, is like english speakers saying "they" the priest and "they" the priestesses, you didn't do anything, theres still a specific gender, changing every single noun to fit a neutral pronoun is just crazy

Too intellectual of a post for a thread like this lol though I'm in agreement.

Funnily enough I just realized, we as English speakers already use they as a non-binary pronoun. Think about it, if someone mentions another person but you don't know the gender, you would refer to them as "they" until you knew.

People are so funny. "I have to call them they now?!" "Why can't I call them what I want, obviously they should shape their person's to fit my ego" lol

Question:

The Virgo refers to my dick as a "he".

How do I know if that's his (?) preferred gender?

Should the dick be referred to as "they" or "it"?

Maybe as a "Dxck"?

My husband has always referred to his as “Sally”

Idk if Sally is a he or a she🤔

You sure it's not "Sully"?

I could have heard wrong, but I didn’t want to assume just because it’s a dick that it’s a he and therefore should have a masculine name

None of my trans friends wanted to be called anything but the gender they felt they were. In transition, you could tell whether him/her.

Why all these cis gender ppl feel the need to label ppl transphobic when they fighting for something that doesn’t concern them.

Heck it’s a self promoting need to feel they are altruistic or empathetic. Most probably don’t even know any trans people.

Sure there are trans ppl caught up in the pronoun rights, but that doesn’t speak for everyone.

Ya. Most of my trans friends don't like being referred to in neutral terms either. Maybe they're talking about non-binary, gender neutral folks?

Has anyone ever actually met one of these “non binary gender neutral” peeps? Jw

Hello?

I only refer as female so it's easier for cis people to interact with me.

First I have ever heard this from you.

Are you saying you don’t identify as a she? I’ve only ever seen you identify as a lesbian, which I think by definition is a she

It's cos I don't really talk about this side of myself much inside and outside of dxp. I personally don't identify as a he or she. I think only 3 people from dxp know this though - dazed, the cancer and another person I prefer not to name.

My sexuality isn't tied in with my gender identity. And I won't confuse you further - if you're fine with seeing me as lesbian, then I'm OK with that too 🙂

Ram, it doesn’t matter to me if you identify as a man or a woman or neither...so please don’t take my previous post as prying an explanation from you either way

You’re just 🐜 to me

LOL. You're the second person to use that emoji to icon/symbol to identify me lmao

I think we’re on to something here

Let’s just drop the pronouns altogether

Henceforth you shall be known as 🐜

On average in the United States about 6 out of every 1000 people identify as "trans" or "gender neutral" (can vary by location, higher or lower).

Those are self reporting numbers, so take maybe one off that figure for people who aren't trans or neutral and are just people like your crazy uncle Larry who likes to wear women's underwear under his normal clothes, leaving you with maybe 5 out of a thousand people.

You can likely assume an equal gender split of about 2 bio men 2 bio female, leaving probably 1 person who identifies as neutral.

1 out of a thousand people. So maybe there are 3 total gender neutral people at an average Florida Marlins home game.

I think the likelihood of needing to use the pronoun "they" is slim. Much like running into any trans person in general unless you seek them out.

You’re probably right about the numbers. This goes beyond that and actually the article isn’t about trans people at all.

The article is about using “they” to address EVERYONE as to not accidentally offend ANYONE.

Yeah but again it's one committee in the CA state legislature. It's not law and it's not binding. It has about the same legal standing as a rule disallowing snacks with peanuts because one of the reps is allergic.

And I understand that.

It’s funny how things get started though.
