has anyone here seen a psychiatrist or therapist?

Yes. Three times in my life I saw a therapist, meaning three times I had several sessions with one. Two were very good therapists - down to earth - , one was so-so. But all were helpful. There are some bad ones out there, but often if a person really wants to work on things even a mediocre therapist can be helpful.

There are parts of therapy that can be painful, when facing difficult emotions and memories and flaws in oneself, and one thing that can happen is that you can have a really good session and feel great then get hit with some tough emotions within the next few days that make you feel like shit. It's fairly common for that to happen, and not bad, just part of the process of working on things and moving through them.

But the main thing is that a person has to be willing to work on things in order for therapy to work. The work isn't just done in the therapy session, there is homework to do.

It's too bad there are some crummy therapists out there, but no shame in switching and not continuing with someone if you don't feel it's the right fit.

nothing to be ashamed of.. just curious about your thoughts of the visit, if it helped you, gave you inspiration or comfort.. etc
You should probably see one if you're wondering about it.

You could try meditating first though.

Hope you find your inspiration

shortly after the 9/11 tragedy my ex and i broke up and the whole thing was very traumatic for me. I spoke to a psychologist and she helped me get over the break up and on my feet again. i would recommend it. no drugs needed (or wanted). if you are worried about privacy, you can ask when you make the appointment.
beautiful! happy to hear that youre feeling better 🙂

Therapy for about 4 years in school, best time spent in school. Its a beautiful thing imho when you can be open and vulnerable and express yourself with someone you trust about your issues.

Saw one in 2011 for about a year who was incredible... She was also really smart because she mentioned to me a few times that she could tell I was "reading" her. Oh snap!

Currently seeing one since last Fall. It's for my anxiety issues and other personal things. I've come a long way since I started seeing the second psychologist but I have to be honest, I'm not 100% open with him and I don't tell him my deepest, darkest shit. I also asked him what his sign was and he's a Taurus lol. A Taurus psychologist ... Explains why he doesn't really understand complex emotions.
lol aw, bummer, why dont you go back to therapist number one then?

Best thing I ever did, and I wish I had done it a long time ago.

Going on two years. She's an angel.

I had bad stomach issues, tied into extreme anxiety. GAD, PTSD as well. I definitely thought I needed medication. Started seeing a psychologist and she referred me to see a psych for meds, but I ended up never going for the meds.

Stomach issues gone, anxiety gone. She never tells me what to do but always helps me figure out what to do.

No judgement, ever. It's about my growth, health and development and no one else's.

First person I saw was a guy whose office smelled like bad breath, and he he kept asking me to repeat things I said, and he wrote everything down in teeny writing in a small notebook. Two sessions and I knew he wasn't the one to help me.

I had counselling but to be honest I found my tarot reader more therapeutic. I didn't need to tell her how I felt or why I felt that way because the cards told her. She gave me a lot of support and advice whereas my counsellor just listened to what I wanted to tell her and some of the things that were bothering me the most I couldn't bring myself to tell her. With my tarot reader I didn't need to tell her anything, she knew

I'm a therapist- love what I do- I get to see people who are not doing so well, get better. It's beautiful, and it's their hard work, not mine.

Nice!!!! Do you mind me asking you what state you live in? Is the pay good? Do you know if there's still a decent job demand?

Always a job demand. I'm in Texas right now. Been in the field 15 years. Pay can be good- depends on what the specialty is. When I first started out, it was definitely not for the pay. 🙂
