Getting tired of DXP. this website is turning into instagram mixed with ashley madison for clock-ticking cat herders, cheating husbands and lolitas. Then you have ands and his infinite herd of teletubies yapping after all his posts.

I miss reading legit astro threads from crystal wearing new-age rednecks and ugly relationship questions where every other poster is not a 9gag meme'er.

I don't really care about astrology, but this focused stuff teaches me more about human nature than all this meta.

Or was DXP always this bad? I'm not that old here.

Or maybe I am the one who corrupts. Should I retire to my dark lands and post to myself for posterity?

DXP used to be mostly 25-55 year olds back when I joined, with the odd teenager here and there who was usually our easy target to make fun of 😉 A lot of 40+ people could barely use all of the dxp functions, there were frequent Q&As about stuff like: "how do I send PMs?" or "how do I quote posts?" etc etc

Now you see even 50+ dxpers posting gif's, meme's etc like they were 15, scary stuff!

2005-2011 = the golden dxp years

You all should have been there.
I became active in 2011. I miss the golden years of dxp. Even 2012 dxp was at its finest. It died after that.

Yeah could be! I started taking massive breaks from dxp starting 2012, that's when I remember things starting to go downhill around here. My posting habits since 2012 are: posting a lot for 1-2 weeks, then disappearing half a year or more. Rinse and repeat.

Even back in 2005, I remember digging up older posts (the oldest ones were from 1999/2000), if I remember correctly the nickname function didn't even exist back in 1999/2000 I think, so all posts were made by "user". I remember reading those posts and thinking "wow, people really just stuck to the subject at hand, no derailing of threads at all, most answers were well-thought out and sounded sincere, people were just a lot less hysterical those days. It seemed a fun and innocent time for dxp.

DXP's decadence hasn't hit rock-bottom just yet, let's hope it does soon though.
What would it have to take for that to happen?

There seems to be a dxp-rebooting every few years; suddenly lots of "clique leaders" (and subsequently their followers) leave dxp for good or take a huge break from it. Then new generations come in, with their own energy, new followers. It just seems like the last few ones have been rather poor. Let's hope for better times ahead.

Yeah, DXP has always been quite clique-ish.

The discussions have just become a lot less interesting since the start of the smartphone/selfie/9gag/meme/Facebook/Instagram/Snapchat era. People have always had a preference for talking about themselves, though for the last 5 years, all these new social media options have given people countless possibilities to promote themselves in all different types of ways, so they end up forgetting even why they joined dxp or a dxp discussion thread in the first place. Derailed threads used to be at times even more fun than the thread's subject. People would tell stories a lot. Now derailing means just posting a million meme's/9gag's etc and people laughing at them, meh.

That, and the grow in popularity of astrology the last 15 years, especially among teenagers/young adults

TBH the idea of dating on DXP is weird af, and a really bad idea if you think about it for two seconds.

Unless you're just passing by, all you'll get is some weird auto shade attached to you, and if it ever gets serious it will become even weirder .

Imagine getting attached to someone who can read ALL the crap you ever posted on here
