Would anyone get one of these ?

Honestly, depends on what they can do with it eventually....In another 10-20 yrs, they will probably be able to integrate it with virtual reality to where its a surrogate for some real person you're talking to online...Some app on their phone takes a scan of them naked, and your sex robot, being made out of programmable shape-shifting materials (that already exist), becomes that person's body type, and is maybe overlaid with a real-time hologram of their face...They're on the other end with their own surrogate doing the same with you - and you two are basically now virtually incarnating into your sex robots to fuck long distance....Sounds hawt to me...the new Blade Runner got me thinking....

Pluto in Aqua is going to expand our sexual horizons technologically...

lol...on a more morbid note, someone posted a link to some real legal issues already popping up around the use of these things. Apparently a few manufacturers have models that can be programmed to attempt to resist the advances of its owner - a 'frigid' mode - while he/she basically simulates rape....Apparently child-like sex dolls are already being sold on the internet and some are pushing to have governments outlaw/ban them...

It was actually his missus who made me laugh the most --the way she was watching, from the tip of her nose, her husband's infatuation with his dolls-- although it would be tragic to find myself in her place.

Revolting, but so are humans to each other. I used to feel threatened by the fact that unlike me they don't have an expiration date, but now I feel like it's for the best. I've been surrounded by nothing but misery when it comes to relationships. Not a single happy marriage in my extended family. Divorce and constant quarrels turned my world upside down. It's unforgivable to subject a child to this yet so many are doing it. Even if it does work out for the lucky few, not everyone gets the same shot at life. Not to mention the people out there who are deformed/have disabilities, this might be their best and only chance at finding companionship. It's disturbing in that it is unnatural, but it might still be less dysfunctional than the average modern relationship. We shouldn't be too concerned about losing our humanity, because those who are incapable of sustaining healthy relationships won't pass on their abnormal behavioral patterns to their offspring and prevent them from entering the vicious circle of dysfunction. They will be bred out of the gene pool and only the healthy ones will remain.

Let's not forget that we humans aren't that special either. Our bodies, not less than a steamer or locomotive are heat engines, the consumption of food in the one is analogous to burning fuel in the other, all based on the process of combustion. Free will is an illusion too, it's all subject to the clockwork laws of cause and effect, just an intricate network of neurons firing that determines our thoughts, hopes, memories and dreams. So far no proof of the existence of our souls.

We are replicable biochemical automatons and the only difference between us and animals (whom we deem inferior to robots 😃) is the scope of the destruction and suffering we've caused.

Humans aren't special. Not understanding biology (we're 98.6% identical to chimps) or the scale of the universe (we're infinitely insignificant) is a common problem. It's a lot of people looking for identities and meaning to their existence when there isn't a discoverable one. You'd think that would disqualify it as a question.
