Actually I see this all the time

The easy answer would be intelligence

But people, in reality, choose to mingle more with the charming ones

And I see this a lot

Charm is entertaining for 5 minutes but a total snooze fest in my books in the long term.

& I think it's a matter of substance, some people really don't mind talking about nothing at all and prefer the superficial.
