There are too many shitty sequels and remakes.

Where is the originality?

I'm finding the same about music. The other day I had the radio on in the car and I actually heard someone sing an overused meme. That annoying "if you don't like me at my worst, you don't get me at my best" or something dumb like that. That meme has made the fb rounds for years and now someone made it into a song?

What next.....will someone sing about "like if you love your mom or ignore and she dies"—?

I disagree...every decade is plagued with generic bullshit relevant to the time with some gems sprinkled throughout. But I do think we're at a point where new ideas are scarce...but at least we have some seriously amazing tv shows instead.
I disagree, l liked almost everything from the 80's and 90's...but maybe our oarents found it lame compared to their era.

What shows? Breaking Bad, TWD, that's about it for me.

I do. Its all about the money. They don't care if you're entertained by their shitty plotted movie. You've already bought the ticket, so they had you fooled at the trailer. That's all that matters. That's what happens when you've got rich people acting and rich people directing. They are only there for the cash to pay for their bills.
Yeah and they're keeping the general quality down so that they can keep scamming people, if they raised the level, they'd have to keep outdoing themselves, also, it would make people smarter, with higher standards, and they migt start reading books, or actually living their lives, they can't have that!

"Do you think movies have turned to shit this past decade?"

No, definitely not.

The movie industry was always a business. ALWAYS! There was always a needed for huge fonds to make a good movie. Skilled actors are not cheap - and same goes for skilled video/sound editors, camera operators, film movie producers/directors, make-up artists, rentals, movie props and so on... The only reasons most investors (cause there's also exceptions - like a rich family who spoils or sports a family member) - would invest millions of $ in a movie - it's because it looks promising (profitable).

The most obvious change in the movie industry - has more to do with technology. Which in some cases it's a good thing (Sci Fi, Fantasy genre), while in others... not so much. As it's the case with poor skills or the extensive use of CGI (same goes for 3D). Sometimes it's overused, it's wasted even on the simplest scenes where the good all fashioned way looked more realistic. The directors got lazier too. They don't spend the necessary amount of time trying to perfect a scene - instead they burden the CGI team with that task. Other times looks like shit...

Even so, the film industry has matured - has grown. And that's why you see more shit - cause the production increased tenfold (to say the least). Tho, there's more good titles as well. Every once in awhile - i keep realizing that i missed some good titles from past years. I guess i don't have the time or the same interest - in keeping up with the latest titles... I keep bumping into them the following years.

It's also worth to be added that - people change as well. Our tastes change. I can't believe what i used to call a good movie a decade ago or even further... I was younger, more immature and thus... easier to entertain.

One example of a good title i've seen just recently: Arival (released in 2016 and yet i never heard of it)

You'd think there's not more room for originality out-there... Think again.

Arrival was total horseshit. Every movie, is just a repeat of what was done in the 80/90's, there's no originality. The clan in Hollywood makes sure it's all shit. It's a brainwashing machine, Hollywood is a celtic term for magic wand or some shit. They brainwash and hypnotise the mass mind ?

Arival is based on the book "The story of your Life". What other movie from the 80's 90's or any other time - has the same story line?! What other first contact movie - questioned our linear thinking? 😕

Other than that, i'm not gonna argue personal tastes. That's foolish in any context.

And which ones would you recommend?

I really enjoyed a few, Insidiouses, Conjurings(several installments), Prometheus, Predators(actual title), Faults, Edge of Tomorrow...l honestly can't think of others...so if you have any titles, please do tell...

so horror sci fi?

if the same person is a director and a screenwriter good chanses are that the movie at least makes sense.

oblivion? ex machina, coherence, predestination

Not necessarily, just so happens that the good ones were sci fi or horror....saw oblivion and ex machina, relatively interesting... Faults is not sci or hor but very good. Not a big film but so enjoyable while it lasted.
