Posted by AquistormYou don't handle it. There is road kills control who does.
This is bugging me. I was driving on the freeway, going 65 mph to Ft. Lauderdale. A cat randomly bolt out in front of me. I hit the cat. It happened in a split second. No I didn't slam on the breaks because it happened so fast. There was nothing I could have done to prevent or stop it.
All this time I couldn't stop thinking about it. The cat, it's possible owner. How do you get over this shit? I had pets all my life. I never ran an animal over. If I see them and if I had time to stop, I'd slow down and wait for them to cross. I got a sense of remorse for killing it. If you hit an animal. Say like a pet. Cat or Dog. How would you handle it?

Posted by AliensusedourbogrollI'm just in deep thought because of it. I know it is not my fault. But some kid or elderly woman is without their pet.
I would cry but try not to blame myself. These things happen.

Posted by LadyNeptuneIkr? I'll have to sit and soak these thoughts in.
I was on the 10 heading east from dtla and I drove past a dead Pitt on the freeway. Kinda tragic.

Posted by AliensusedourbogrollGood time to get some weed and try to smoke and chill from this. Or just sit and think.Posted by AquistormYeah I understand. It sucks.Posted by AliensusedourbogrollI'm just in deep thought because of it. I know it is not my fault. But some kid or elderly woman is without their pet.

Posted by FirstDecanTaurianWomen0428If I slammed on the breaks or swerve, there would been some bad consequences. Me getting hurt/killed, getting anyone behind me killed just to avoid the cat. I think in this situation it is ether me or the cat. The force of hitting the cat at 65 mph actually knocked my fender slightly off.
Yeah there are donkeys that block the road over here by me, and I have seen many patients of mine in hospital, broken bones, and damaged cars for driving on a canyon where the donkeys just sit there and can't do anything about it either. If you don't watch it they come out of nowhere and you would be driving 65 and bam in my hospital as my patient.

Posted by SolesanIm starting to get over it. With some time of thinking anyways.
Just have a beer and don't worry about it man. You won't meet the cat's owner to get scolded or anything. They should of kept the cat inside to where it couldn't go run out on the freeway.

Posted by P-AngelNo I didn't. I didn't look back at it. If I did, it would of been dangerous of me stepping onto the highway because it was busy with the speed limit of 70.
That's fast driving .. so it must have been an interstate, rather than a freeway.
It's doubtful a pet would be on the interstate ... it must have been a stray.
Cats don't always die from being by cars ... they have the uncanny ability to flip themselves over, so you only run over their back legs .. then they crawl to a ditch and suffer for days.
did you even bother to go back?
If there is a neighborhood close enough to the interstate, in where the cat could have lived ... it would have been a nice gesture to go back and scoop the cat up (if it's dead) and go lay it on the sidewalk or curb of the subdivision so the owners could find it, and bury, and get closure ... rather than see it as a pancake on the road.
But, then again .. most people think about their own feelings, and how they, themselves are going to deal with their own feelings of grief.

Posted by P-AngelHere in Southern Florida the highways are always busy. Day or night. It doesn't matter. Where I hit the cat was near Ft Lauderdale. I live in Doral which is west of Miami.Posted by AquistormPosted by P-AngelNo I didn't. I didn't look back at it. Maybe late tonight when there's barely traffic, you can go find the kitty and take the remains to the nearby subdivision. I'm sure it's family would rather see it's remains, then have to live with the thought that the cat is lost, or even worse ... injured.
