I found out that a couple I know have opened their marriage up. Now, this couple has always acted like newlyweds when you're around them. They have all these cute little nicknames for their blended family name, and acronyms for sayings. It's literally their hashtags. They've always been super showy with love and affection.

They genuinely have always had a great relationship. I've known them from the very first moment of their relationship which was 17yrs ago. They will be married for 16yrs in Oct. All of their kids are now graduated. I'm not sure the timeline of when they started swinging but I did get some odd vibes from the husband starting about 2015 or 2016. I had weird thoughts of wondering if he had ever cheated. Trust me, its weird bc I hadn't been around them much anymore. It's just a weird vibe I was getting.

He was previously married his wife cheated within the 1st 2yrs, they divorced. He was absolutely devastated and believe 100% in monogamy.

What he never knew is the woman whom I was super close with actually had cheated on her husband multiple times right before she left him. She never told him for fear he would never trust her.

So, back to present day. The youngest son actually walked in on a full on swingers party. I guess since that has happened they aren't hiding it, at all.

Did they open their marriage bc their sex life died and they are no longer satisfied? Is that what you do so you don't cheat?

Anyone been a swinger and what's the experience, how did it effect your relationship?

Sometimes people change their minds. If they love each other, that shouldn't change by having an open married.

Cheating is being sneaky, open marriages are not. Some people open and then close them once their fantasies have been fulfilled. Others are fine just watching if one person has a higher sex drive then the other. There are lots of options to have a healthy relationship.

It just has to be agreed upon by both spouses.

Open relationships are an easy way of practicing safe sex, while not feeling guilty about wanting to explore different people in a long term relationship Both people should have some guidelines that they agree on. Some try it and figure out they don't like it.

It just depends on what the true intentions were for opening up the marriage.

It sounds like a good arrangement for people who want to stay together and have some exciting sex, long after the demise of their own sex life.

Or it could be an incentive to resurrect their own sex life, who knows. Seeing that grumpy old fart (who has been part of the family for so long that sex with him would feel as repugnant as incest) performing like a porn star, Viagra permitting, could make one reconsider the unimaginable...

Lol this comment made me laugh. 🤣🤣🤣 I doubt he is on viagra. They are both in incredible shape. I do know they do take the bio-identical pellets. That probably helps with his testosterone.

She is 49, he is going to be 48. Idk when people start having erectile dysfunction. Is it in the late 40s?

Could be, but also a selective lack of libido for a longtime partner. Both sexes are affected. Little time to properly google it for now, but found this --about women-- for a starter:

From Psychology Today: "Dr. Wednesday Martin, an anthropologist and author of the book Untrue, posits that long-term relationships may be particularly hard on women's desire. She suggests that women (perhaps even more than men) require variation in their sexual experiences to maintain their sexual interest in the context of long-term partnerships."

My Gemini bff and his Cancer wife tried this after he found out she was cheating on him. I’m not sure how they came to the conclusion to try it, but he was adamant that he does love her and that he wants to make it work, but of course he was crushed! They do have a kid that just entered kindergarten I think.

But I think the swinging thing was short lived. I was extremely surprised she cheated bc she has mental illness I think, at the very least problems due to her self image. And just the fact that they are perfect for each other! It’s like she just stopped trying once they got married. She had gotten gastric bypass or something and was losing weight to get to the skin removal surgery. Then she got pregnant and they got married and she’s gained it all back—and maybe then some! Now she can’t do the surgery of course. And it’s the fact that she’s clearly depressed about it, not doing anything she supposed to be to help it, and has a young child that’s getting affected by it and who’s very future depends on it. Idk relationships are crazy lol

Whatever they choose to do for their relationship is cool. But poor son, he didn't consent to coming home to an old people orgy. RIP his eyes, that's rough.

He may not need to go to therapy for his parents divorce but he'll need just as many therapy hours to work through seeing his dad's ass cheeks clapped.

Great time to be a therapist, job security at an all time high.

The only women I've ever dated and wanted to see get fucked by other people were women I could never truly commit to. At that point the relationship became a fetish of control rather then something functional. I'll admit, I've never actually had this situation happen. As a single man however I would 100% mess around with multiple people. Women, and perhaps even men. I'm pretty open. While dating however the second I think it would be a good idea for my lover to mess around with other people is the second I know what my feelings truly are. I don't care about them whatsoever. So every time it's even come close to that, I've left them before going through the awkward embarrassment of a dying relationship.

Well it could be the sex thing it that their marriage was having problems, someone was cheating & this is a safer way to preserve the marriage… in my experience, ED is more a mid- late 50’s & older. But not really fully but just starts to become a bit more effort to orgasm for men.. not can’t get it up. That’s more a medical issue. Others are fully functioning into their 60’s.. so who knows. I think if there are emotional issues/marriage dying/not feeling the same that could lead to ED also. But just no interest..

I’ve never done the swinger thing though.I’ve known people who have & it destroyed the marriage, so think you have to do it because you both enjoy it for it to work.
