I'm filling a jar with 101 slips of paper stating 101 reasons I love him. Going to decorate it all manly.
My 17 yo son says that is too sappy, but I think he'll like it.

Midnight showing of Fifty Shades of Grey of course! Honestly, I forgot about Valentines day so I'm going to bop around this thread to steal ideas.
Awesome!! Then some R&R when you get home!
Working. Then making dinner, watching a movie, and having a glass of wine.
This is my V-Day present to myself.
This year not doing anything!
He mention once that we were unique. So this year I wana spend some time together at the end of Feb
Just us and do something old school/earthy like go walk in the woods and maybe movie 50shades mmmmh yh!
In the past I've done something diff each year - hand written notes, handmade card, pics, candy, choc hearts, R&R, just wana do something relaxing n cosy but not on the day. Show ur SO how much they mean to u every month.
Ps - we will both be working.
Will get dessert for mum on the day as a treat!!
My dad will be visiting so I am plotting to take him and his girlfriend out for a nice valentine dinner followed by playing pool and bowling.
The next day I will subject myself to the torture of shopping with the Taurus..maybe find a nice perfume for her or something while le Virgo dad will inspect everything is wrong with this apartment and my life.
my husband and i dont celebrate valentines. he already treats me like a queen/his princess everyday.
he did tell us we're going to a play this february with 2 other couples? and there's dinner at a nice restaurant before we go to a play. but it's not for that day. i guess here in europe we're not really that big on valentines. at least not many of us here.
^yeah same for people here.
we have a romanian traditional celebration of valentine's. people hold that one more closely to their heart.

this is widely a North American thing. (Not sure of canada) but my husband even says, that's an american thing. lol
for the politically correct: for the United states citizens. lol
cause some of the South Americans get riled up over "americans"

Pfft, I'm fine with that.
It's the working part that sucks. If I get scheduled a dinner shift, I'm going to hate life. Vday at a restaurant sucks- serving a bunch of cheap jerks who are only there as a pretense to the national day of fucking. SOMUCHFUN
We always do something too. Nothing too sappy, maybe the theatre.
The status of my relationship is .... we've been married since 1982, and still do everything together. So, even if it's just going out to dinner, we'll do something.
Posted by GENERALIZOD
idk y people even go out to restaurants on vday when everyone else will be doing it! that's a ton of traffic!
It really isn't worth it. Some places make up over priced "specials" that is just regular menu items fancied up with a flower or some pink shit. Depends on where you go.
The last time I did anything remotely close to Vday something was a few years ago around when I first started dating someone. We didn't really celebrate the day for what it was since we'd just started dating, but that night was one we both had off and decided to just make it a normal date without going out- we made dinner at his place and watched movies. We both worked restaurants so we knew that going out was a no go haha.

I actually like that name much better than Valentines Day. LOL. So much more exciting.
That's because that's what it is! haha. I started referring to that a few years ago after watching tacky couples come into the restaurant for their Valentine's dinner (NOT a place at the top of anyone's list for Vday, honestly) and thinking "they're just doing this as a pretense to going home and having sex..."
It's even more maddening for us because it's tons o couples and nobody tipped for squat. So we're working with major masses that night and making nothing.
I'm at a newer, bigger restaurant for Vday this year so I'm sure it'll be even more painful. I've heard horror stories haha.
ALL BECAUSE PEOPLE WANT TO GO HOME AND GET LAID! Haha

You should buy yourself a present too. Like a massage or a facial.... Spoil yourself a lil bit.

Right? If I had the spare cash, I'd get a massage. The last 3-4 months has been stupidly stressful. Unfortunately, Vday falls on a weekend and I'll be working all weekend. BUT, I don't have the schedule yet and I'm usually working Saturday days. Fingers crossed that I work a day shift that day too haha. I'll be SO happy if I do. THAT'LL be my present!!

Have you tried Ciders? I can't stand beer, but have been introduced to ciders which I'm having fun trying the variety that's out there.

As it should be. If people want to take an extra day to do something especially nice, by all means. But more often than not, it's just the usual commercialized holiday that people use as an excuse to actually show their loved one actions that should be done year round, tbh.
He's a guy. I can see either a very typical guy response or a guy who knows how to appreciate his woman response haha.
"Aw, thanks honey." *stores it in the back of the closet to be forgotten*
or
"Aw, thanks honey." *cherishes it forever and digs it out when he's old and gray to reminisce*
Love and luxury everyday... elevating it for Valentine's day would be sinful.
I love your idea of notes in a jar! Very meaningful!
For us, not sure what to do really...
Cap and I not all that keen on Event days if you know what I mean...
I have this fantasy though, of packing a really scrumptious super deluxe picnic basket and kayaking over to a beach opposite my house and just setting up for the day - nice rug, books, a Frisbee, chill out and swim for a bit.
Sorry guys, it's high Summer down Under at the mo' & perfect weather for it 😛
But hey, I'm so keen on the idea I may not wait for Vday lol

You're hilarious and right.
I've been working with the public far too long. :/
I only liked valentines in elementary when you give out those little cards to ppl in your class.click to expand
AND the candy. ...And decorating those Valentine's mailboxes. I'd get all Martha Stewart on those things.
I am going to put sticking notes all over his room with little notes and all the reasons I love him, make a little basket with some treats like whip cream filled strawberries, some wine (for me) and some nonalcoholic drink for him and a few naughty toys. I got a cute little bra and pantie set with thigh highs and heals and I am going to wrap a big read bow around me. I'm hoping he'll just want to stay in and make a yummy dinner because I really don't like going out on V-day...it is always so crowded and crazy out. :/ We do a lot of this stuff already because we are an affectionate couple and love on each other ever day so we surprise each other and I always wear cute outfits cause I like to play dress up...so not really sure it will be that much different then any other day.
Oops...we are boyfriend and girlfriend, this is or first Valentine's. I'm a Taurus and he is a Scorpio
I don't celebrate pagan holidays. *grumpy cat face*
Huh, I'm not sure. I'll probably forget it's Valentine's until the bf says something to me. I imagine we won't get to celebrate that weekend. We'll probably exchange some nice words in person on Sunday, the day after. He might also give me chocolate that day (which will ultimately end up being his chocolate since I'm not a big fan). Then maybe we'll grab dinner on Monday. I'm not much for celebrating things like this, though.
This'll be our second Valentine's together, though I don't remember for the life of me what we did last year. Must not have been that different from what we usually do.
Me - Pisces
Him - Leo

"What are you doing for your SO for Valentine's Day"

Curious to what everyone is doing for their loved one for V-Day. How long have yall been together? What is the status of your relationship? What is your sign and their sign?
~sigh~ No offense, as most here know I find this commercialized day to be fake, obligatory, sheepish, non-spontaneous and completely robotic.. It's an expectation, and screams a sense of entitlement. Most people don't like those descriptions in a normal relationship, why is Valentines Day the exception?
Instead I would ask what everyone does for their loved one EVERY day to make their day better? I am a romantic at heart, but this day does the opposite for me personally.
This is my second valentine's day. We have been together for more than a year. Last year was a disaster with all the traffic in the restaurants we hadn't planned anything. This year he asked me what do I want to do. I mentioned 50 shades of grey but I am not sure. Its a Saturday. Long weekend so I m looking forward to something fun.

Oh, you fuddy duddy!! lol!!
It's just an excuse to do something out of the ordinary, an excuse to go over the top, a day set aside to focus on each other....
Why not just enjoy it?
I know its a commercialized "hallmark" holiday, just like Mother's Day and Father's Day.

Yea...fuddy duddy is true. Can't help it.
Wedding Anniversaries should only be honored, because imo, each year a married couple lasts should be celebrated and honored. The same with Mother's and Father's day. Valentine's Day...(someone mentioned elementary school and candy)..definitely for the kids. For me as an adult it's just not natural. It's planned, it's obligatory, fake & temporary behavioral adjustment...bah...it really creeps me out. lol...it does.
