Appointment was at 10AM and they said I was their only appointment of the day. At least I won’t be contracting smallpox or monkeypox once I get my 2nd dose.

Are you at risk?

Not necessarily per CDC standards but I do consider my life style more susceptible to it than some of my peers.

The CA health dept is prioritizing sex workers from what I know bc of regularly swapping fluids. Don’t know about other states but my roommate works for them.

However she updated me that they changed the risk to also droplets so that’s why I’m still wearing masks in stores.

Idk I just saw my neighbor niece with what looked like black postules on her chin—

Damn, if you don’t mind me asking, where do you live? Texas has one of the highest case counts (California has the most though) but most of them are men from what I’ve been gathering.

Southern California I guess if you are having sex with multiple peeps there is a risk?

It’s traumatici g to see your face with these black postules. I wasn’t going to

Get vax since I’m not having sex but idk

Lol it’s the worst kind of disease

Is that smallpox vaccine or do they have something new specifically for the monkeypox? @Whorpio

It’s a smallpox/monkeypox two-in-one vaccine from what I understand: “JYNNEOS, the Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA) vaccine, was approved in 2019 for prevention of smallpox and monkeypox disease in adults 18 years of age and older…”

There’s another one specifically for smallpox that was approved in 2007 that they say also works against monkeypox. They weren’t offering that one where I went. Apparently it has higher risk of side effects so the US government just keeps it as an emergency option in the event that a foreign enemy attacks us with smallpox.

This may be something to ask your roommate. I saw a woman on TikTok who had it, who did not contract it from sex. She said it spreads as easy as an infected person touching one of their popped blisters and proceeding to touch a surface like a doorknob or toilet. The next uninfected person who touches that surface then unknowingly gets infected.

I was wondering if that’s true, because they used to say COVID spreads similarly, but then they discovered the coronavirus doesn’t survive long on most surfaces.

This is the understanding I have of it today, not just close contact. She’s yet to share the update furthermore as to how long the droplets or whatever are active, but she generally updates me as soon as she has more info.

How are you feeling after it?

I felt fine Monday. Tuesday I felt feverish and the injection site started to look and itch like a mosquito bite. Today the bump has gotten bigger and is still itchy. Hoping it calms down soon because it’s so hard not to itch it.

I saw a woman my age who got monkeypox, who claimed she did not get it from sexual contact.

I personally chose to get the vaccine because I have no idea who my sexual partners sleep with aside from me. And a couple of them have jobs that put them at increased risk of exposure.

Of course they're trying to make a bux out of it too

Do patients have to pay for it?

If not, how do they make profit?

And?

Ffs, I feel like in 20 years people will be like "I just got the shot that will finally euthanize me in 10 days 😊." And some people will cheer.

I feel like too many people are willing to shoot up anything the news talks about. You should feel good about yourself though. Everyone knows the news along with political leaders (or at least the one you side with) are 100% accurate, would never lie to the public, and can be fully trusted. I mean the idea that anyone could fake something so serious in 2022 is just crazy. It's not like we have the technology to fake the truth or seriousness of things in any way. Its not like people have the ability to sell false information. If we had technology or people like that, we'd be able to cure any type of illness. In less then a year even.

Sad part no one can truly tell me I'm wrong. Sometimes I actually wish someone could. I wish everyone had the ability to see the deeper truth in everything. It's kind of a curse for me really. Imagine living in a world where everyone is blind to the truth, and when you try to tell people they are being uses and manipulated, you are looked at as the crazy one.

I do not watch the news. I do not consider a topic “sensationalized” until it starts popping up on my Facebook newsfeed (I have passionate friends from both parties that always have something to say about topics that frequently appear on the news).

My decision to get this vaccine came after a few weeks of asking for opinions from my PCP and people closest to me. I made sure to ask my antivax friends, because I lowkey wanted them to talk me out of it. But considering that 50% of my antivax friends encouraged me to get it, I decided it would be the safest and most responsible thing for me to do at this time.

I don't mean to criticize you on a personal level in anyway. I just find the idea of modern medicine appalling.

Modern medicine? Medical field has always been full of atrocities. Even now most medical studies are on white men. The crisis of women specifically marginalized women lack of actual health care will come to a head. Every other day there are so many articles about women being denied real attention and dying from preventable illness.

I somewhat agree with the first 2 sentences, but disagree with everything else. If anyone is using the medical industry to their full advantage it's women. By that I mean women are more likely to go to the doctor, and be willing to take some random test or med that's new and up coming. So if the medical industry is using anyone to test things on majority of the time it tends to be women.

I just feel indifferent, and pulled in 2 separate ways in this type of situation. I fully believe people are free to live their life, and do whatever they want to be happy and feel safe. At the same time I'm deeply spectacle about things people say in general. On top of that the "word" vaccine has become such a disgusting trigger word that makes people fight, complain, and even hate. It just puts me off. There is nothing positive from telling the world you got something pretty much experimental injected into you. Also there is nothing positive from the way I take it either. I personally feel it's better when people mind their own business.

Doctors routinely and repeatedly ignore concerns and don’t offer us those tests that men probably refused out of stubbornness so even when we seek help more often we are less likely to get it.

I personally don't think its doctors that get to make any choice. At least not here in the US. They have to get the green light from the government and a insurance company before they can't give any treatment. I 100% feel if real doctors were in control, they would want to save people at all costs. Unfortunately it's the government that truly gets to decide what meds and procedures the doctor can preform.

I know I cry about vaccinations and medical stuff often, but never blame doctor or nurses unless its something incompetent like a misdiagnosis. Truth be told they are controlled like school teachers, and forced to do whatever the government says is ok. Which is backed up by an insurance company willing to invest money in one's recovery. Which many times is too costly for them to even care. That to me is not only morally corrupt, but terrible in every way imo.

The bold part is what she’s saying though. Doctors don’t take women seriously when we go in with mysterious symptoms.

Last year I tore a tendon in my shoulder while weight lifting. The pain was so bad, I couldn’t even sleep. I went to a sports medicine specialist. HE told me it was just sore muscles from lifting too much weight. He didn’t stop there though. He went so far as to advise me to not lift heavy weights because “men aren’t attracted to bulky muscles on women….instead, lift lighter with twice as many reps so you build lean muscle”.

This is unfortunately a common occurrence for women. Our symptoms are downplayed and then we get personal opinions thrown at us.

Hell, my PCP is a woman and she advised me to start taking PReP as an HIV preventative after I told her how many people I had slept with in the 6 months leading up to my appointment. I am still trying to figure out if the assessment was based on personal opinion (does she just personally think I’ve slept with a lot of people while I’m over here thinking the number I gave her was not a lot?) or am I seriously at risk? Or did she just mention that so she could bill my insurance for “preventative counseling” and make an extra $ 50-150?

I’ve had 2 psychiatrists ask me if I’d be interested in “seeing them” outside of the clinic. One was a man (his justification was he wanted to work with me in a “more casual environment”), the other was a woman (I think she just wanted friends, but a few months later I got a letter saying she was no longer with the practice 😬).

It sucks seeking medical help as a woman.

Oh, and in your first paragraph you mention that doctors would want to save people if they were in control. I currently do medical billing. I believe there are good doctors (2 of the accounts I manage are for doctors who care). There are also doctors who strictly just care about the money (whether they got into the field to help people and just got corrupted by the taste of money is up for debate). Government and insurance is the last thing in the mix, if we are talking about what drives doctors decision making.
