Is emotionally stunted.

I’d say that it’s another barrel roll towards millenials, but not really. Being raised in a different culure, I grew accustomed to making and building emotional connections, placing value on interpersonal relationships, and maintaining friendships.

Most of my late 20s early 30s peers here in USA however can’t even maintain one-two good connections, nevermind the shitshow their romantic love is. “Friends” are really acquaintances, there’s zero ability lin fostering emotional warmth and bonding, and the sheer fear in their eyes at “having to work to build connections” is so pathetic, I hardly give new interests the time of day anymore, once I see it.

So what gives? Bad parenting? Shitty education/economic/health systems? Mass consumprion of psych medications at a developmental age? Sense of entitlement and the first world/nation factor of abundance of literally everything?

Many people from EU and third world countries will tell you that this is not a “millenial problem”, it really is a USA problem. I don’t see this shit elsewhere as much at all.

Um, I think my generation, X, was emotionally stunted and I was a perfect representation.

X-ers, please go back and listen to our music as a reminder...

How? We had r&b, bands like the cure, nirvana, tupac

With the exception of R&B...

The music is mostly indirect and not classically romantic... and, when I say not romantic, I'm not necessarily talking love... but that too. No kissy kissy. Mostly outrage and shock.

Most of the US exchange students I lived with or interacted with almost everyday for 6 months - 2 years during my university years (back in late 90s/early 2000s) have not kept in touch with me since their exchange programme ended and they went home. At this moment there are only 2 Americans out of the many from that batch whom I have kept in touch with, over the last almost 20 years.

In comparison to the EU students I lived with and interacted with back then, most of them are still in touch with me. A few of them even sent condolence cards and wreaths when my dad passed in 2017.

Maybe it's a cultural thing.

Mind you, all this was way before social media became such a big thing.

Technology has made it easier to be an asshole without public knowledge while typing on a telephone.

So, by your logic, the rest of the world type on a telephone in a different way and magically succeed at social life? Lol...

I think that this is rather a cultural problem.

I've interacted with people from all cultures. I don't see any real differences between them. It's definitely a generational problem.

It really all started with women in the workforce really. But, how long were women going to sacrifice their whole existence and happiness for the sake of the family? Nobody picked up the slack. We also stopped the spontaneous conception. Families are negotiably smaller and some marriages are purposely childless. When you have one child... versus many children the natural social conditioning that occurs with family is almost non-existent.

Secondly, the global economy. In order to make money, at maximum potential, you really have to be willing to move. This is a decision I had to face. So, it's like many choose career pursuits over family closeness. I had to reconcile with the fact that I was more good to my family with wealth - prosperity and posterity. Not many people grew up in a huge family safe family atmosphere. It gives you a tremendous since of identity and belonging to have a huge close family.

Yes, technology. People forgetting their kids are in the car cause they are too busy on their cell phones, no talking at dinner, everyone has their technology. People create whole other worlds and whole other identities online. The video games have become super HD. You can order a date online - multiple in one day if you wanted to. Playing the odds.

US is a consumer economy. We are the world's #1 consumer. Nobody even wants to produce - work in plants, build thing, labor. Soon there will be robots. And, we will be strapped into our own individual worlds. I've thought about it... that is what my future generation will be... my children's children's children. I have been thinking of ways at preservation. I talk to my children about it.

I have a millenial and I have a "Z." He is barely a millenial as he was born on the last year, 1995.

He is progressing slowly. He's very intelligent but extremely laid back. He seems to be all about our nuclear family and video games. I see a female maybe once or twice a year. He values his friendships though. My "Z" seems to be alot more active and progressive than my millenial. I think she will be a Z being born in 2002. She's a whip. It's really hard to tell as they are both introverts.

It seems that us extroverts are dying out. Perhaps culture and technology is making it easier to be an introvert.

I work with children on an almost daily basis. I used to be a teacher at the high school level. I am not the ultimate authority but I can say that guns play no major role and how these people interact with each other. The biggest problem is technology at their fingertips which remove the need for actual face-to-face conversations.

If you have your face glued to the screen all the time, how can you possibly have enough experience to hold a conversation for more than 3 minutes at a time? When I interview younger generations, you can tell they're completely uncomfortable.

There has always been something threatening, though. When I was a kid (and even for a generation back), it was the Russians during the cold war. Later, it was terrorism, today it's school shootings.

Contrary to what media will sell you, we are living in a relatively peaceful time. Even in the United States, your chances of being the victim of a gun crime are the lowest it's ever been.

I guess the rest of the world doesn't see America as being a peaceful place to live. Whilst there are school shootings etc, as a parent i wouldn't feel safe sending my kid to school. Having said that I live in a crime free area so it's relative, even so I still find the gun culture terrifying

This must be media hype? Why would they write this if it's not true......scaremongering?

https://edition.cnn.com/2018/12/13/health/gun-deaths-highest-40-years-cdc/index.html

it's from CNN so yeah it's a lie. It's just media hype so they can take our guns away that's the liberal socialist agenda. They dont give two fucks about the people they just want control of the people and they cant do it. So I'm sure half the shootings were actually done by them.

I’m on the cusp. I’m not emotionally stunted. I just am not going to waste my time on people that are clearly not worth extra effort being put out.

One thing I have noticed is the work ethic is so poor among the majority of them it’s beyond disgusting. What makes you entitled to bot doing leg work.

I’ve been talked back to more from them than other generations.

This isn’t fair, how come you don’t do it but you expect me to? Mfers pay your dues and stfu.

Just because you have a masters degree with no experience doesn’t give you clout.

I admire their view of fairness. They just don’t understand until the older generations die off and more diversity comes into play that nothing changes overnight.

A 25 year old, while right in their observation, isn’t going to change a 55 year olds mind. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Hey that social influencer thing works.

I have a hot Spanish “friend” we talked for a while. She worked at footlocker. She started posting bikini pics and gym workouts and had profiles on dating sites asking to follow her Snapchat.

About a year later we stop seeing each other, but she started doing club hosting for like 100 a gig with other hot girls and bagged a ball player. Everyday she got snaps of her getting gifts, cars, spas, vacations.

Last time I spoke to her she was going to nursing school. No way she’s doing that now. But she full groupie. I hope she keeping receipts and returning stuff. Seems like she hit the lottery because she cute with big tits.

All I can really remember about her was she was pretty, goofy as hell. And her laugh was annoying. Sex wasn’t memorable.

I think it’s interesting that getting a masters degree is seen as a “poor work ethic”. And a lot of kids stay in college because the jobs out there pay $ 20,000-40,000 which in a lot of places isn’t enough to be out of poverty. Even with a bachelors degree a lot of people in my area make the same as people without them.

Why put in any more effort when people discover that all the reward for effort they’ve been told will pay off no longer exists? Boomers promised us all these things based of their own experience while those who control the rules have been robbing us by paying lower wages and benefits to increase their profit statements.

We are a work force that is being taken advantage of because we have no other choice. We can be fired by a whim. A lot of us feel like we have no future. We can’t have families because childcare is as expensive as a place to live. We have been in such a competitive over-saturated world and haven’t had emotional needs met so a lot of us only feel like we have ourselves. And what’s our purpose in this world?

Lulz. I’m glad school wasn’t hard for you.

“The real world” is bullshit. It’s all real. The cards are just stacked higher against us. Most companies don’t want to pay a living wage and most companies don’t want to give someone a full time job because of health costs. We graduate with $ 50k- $ 100k in debt because our parents told us it was necessary to survive. Rent is hard and so is ever hoping to get savings for a house. I know “kids” on the streets my age.

But please go ahead and buy stereotypes about avocado toast and act like older generations wouldn’t have had smart phones if they existed back then.

There are just a lot of excuses I worked a full time job and went to school. I worked during my masters as well.

There are some serious with materialism and expectations that a vast amount of 30 and less are facing.

I was lower middle class. I had only a single mother who wasn’t home because she was working two jobs.

The amount of effort a lot of you generate is not sufficient to be successful. It’s always easier to point fingers.

I’m amused to see how everybody just passively omitted my mention of psychiatric med abuse in original post.

No other country out there drugs up their kids since pre-teen age, which drastically affects biological development.

Your kid isn’t happy? Oh gosh, he must be depressed! Send him to a shrink - you’re not a bad parent! So what if you yourself completely lack the social skills of interacting with and raising your young human...

This has been a thing for the last half century at least.
