isnt that taking advantage of the other person. I mean theyre going to look past all that in the beginning but after a while, they will grow to resent your inability to pay for dates.
I'm not seeing the dilemma. The other person can decide to stay home and not date said jobless person. No one is forced to go out and pay for a date.

I find this interested, because once you throw gender into the mix and we're having s different conversation.

That's probably because gender is always going to be an undertone.

yes, but no breeding unless you have a net worth of $ 100K or more

it's irresponsible to reproduce unless you're financially ready for it.
So now only upper middle class should produce?

Nice one Hitler.

I'm being sarcastic. forgot the emoticon.

in all seriousness, yes, of course people should make their own choices. what's important is that there's honesty early on.

my hubby didn't have a job when we first met. But he wasn't a bum, and he wasn't in much debt (serious debt would be a deal breaker for me).

I have school school loans from like fifteen years ago lol still haven't paid it off and its like 10k... I'm hoping they cancel it
Yup. Within the last 7 years, there have been some great " income based repayment plans" you can apply for and after 10 years - if you continue to qualify each year, the balance is forgiven.

It depends. if it's small (by student loans standards), like $ 10K for a practical degree, that's fine. It's an investment.

now, if he's racked up $ 200K in debt for Scubadiving History from a scam "college" like University of Phoenix or something, that will freak me out.

just being honest

Personally, I'd rather date a lovely unemployed woman than get involved with a successful career woman, who has self-entitlement and commitment issues...
X2.

x3 and I know plenty of them. All of them are either single or ironically can't detach from a "broke" dude(the guys actually do work) and strangely all of their female friends are married.

So I suppose women are supposed to sit around filing their nails, collect unemployment while waiting for a man to pay their rent and car note?

I don't understand why women are looked down upon because they can take care of themselves.

It seems to be a liability to some men.

If I can add to our quality of life because I have a few extra disposable dollars in my pocket, my bills are current, my credit score is great and I don't have to experience any anxiety over who is going to pay for dinner......how can that be something 'negative'?
There's nothing wrong with a woman going out and getting her own and being successful. It's how you treat people that matters. All I know is that most do not want to be looked down on or excluded from being loved because their financial situation is less than ideal...that's gender neutral.

that's fair enough.

The pendulum swings violently in these types of threads......some of the comments about career driven women are the same as you would read about gold diggers....which confuses me.

"Princess"...."Entitled".

Being a working woman......that's like the opposite of both of those.

If the target is constantly moving.....there is just no point. the best thing is to be who you are and let everything else fall in its place, I suppose.

I agree. The princess or entitlement label comes when the ego kicks in as you stated earlier and people start thinking someone is a lesser person because they are struggle...I'm sorry but it's silly because of the reality of our economic system. Regardless of whether you're self employed or work for someone, you rely on othersand no one every truly becomes successful on their own. Therefore we all get help and someone takes a chance on us despite our talents and flaws. It's understandable if you don't extend that same gift to someone. But don't have a disdain or call them bums and broke when all of us are on the public done in some form regardless of how hard they work. Simple truth

you're running with the idea that don't have a job = don't have money
notwithstanding trust funds, 401Ks, or CDs...

one cannot have money without a job

yeah i wouldnt want to be with a man who just has alot of money, and no job skills/ect. i mean, i know a cousin of ours, she is married to a very wealthy guy but he is jobless. He inherited ALOT of money so he sits on his ass playing video games all day. Not even cleaning the house, since he pays housekeepers for that -- he's rich. And she works full time.

to be honest, when we have Christmas gatherings, funerals, weddings, big family events thats when i see this cousin, And when she talks about her husband and situation, i hear alot of resentment. she doesn' sound happy at all, and the resentment is just too much. What do we all do? just listen. I mean she married him, knowing this.
