There is this rumor that the ERCOT (manages the power grid) cut off power to millions of people when its 0 degrees, not because there was a lack of supply to meet demand. Because price on unregulated Natural Gas prices went up as the Railroad commission (they’re not about trains, but kinda dirty) limited supply, but Energy sector is regulated by price cap’s on what they can charge their customers. Until yesterday when the Public Utility Commission of Texas issues emergency order to raise electric pricing. So now that ERCOT is able to charge you more to cover Natural Gas increase, you can have some power back, but they sure weren’t going to give you any power, if they couldn’t charge you for it.

Hope you don’t freeze,

Some people legit died tho, a few in their car from carbon monoxide poisoning, and a few in a fire from trying to find creative ways to heat themselves. I will admit Texas don't know what to do with this kind of weather.

In the affluent areas no power loss has occurred just the abnormal cold temperatures. But yes OP the whole scene of preparation has been sketchy with the lack of salt trucks for the roads as to power outages etc etc.

we just dont really have a need for all that infrastructure when the roads only freeze once every 5 years.

It's been said that the people who haven't lost power are on part of the circuit that services Emergency services like hospitals.

It's really horrible. I have one son and family in a hotel until Saturday and another son and family sticking it out. They had power for a whole three hours today at their homes.

They are in North Austin.

I heard people in Roundrock got notice it expect it to be out longer, and also losing water because the treatment plants don't have electricity. I'm hearing there is no availability for hotel's around here.

Hope the best for everyone. I know people in the south are never prepared for any type of winter bs since it rarely happens there. I would invest in a generator, or hell even solar panels. Anything to separate you from depending on the power company for survival. Those type of things might even come in handy during good weather, or any situation regarding self supplied power.

This shit is insane and frsutrating but my 3 year old has handled it well. I just get a feeling that this is the beginning of something horrible to come. I just do. Sure we were poorly prepared. Ive never seen so much snow before in my life. But I just feel like the real agenda was to drive up prices.

Of the 4 million without power, 1 million were in houston alone. A man froze to death outside. I feel like these mega churches could always do more in these situations. Its crazy. I just keep getting this feeling of impeding doom. Like its gonna be like this for longer than a week. And Texas has a high crime rate. You think the unruly here will stay quiet long? I can promise ya, the longer we are in darkness the bigged the threat of home invasion becomes

We are also losing water due to multiple pipes busting. Smh shit is truly crazy

Did you not leave your water dripping overnight?

Oh I did and my pipes were fine but the ovetall water supply in my town had so many busts. They are workibg 24 hours now around the clock and last night alone they fixed 450 pipes. But all of our water pressured was lowered and we are on a boil water notice. Today was the first day I could find water in the store

This was so ridiculous and infuriating.

Thankfully we only lost power for 45 mins because supposedly our area has an independent source of electricity? My parents didn’t lose theirs because they’re within hospital circuit. We had lots of my husband’s relatives stay over with us from the Cinco Ranch area as they had lost power for days. I really had higher expectations from that area, guess it also isn’t that great.
