17 for sure, met my first longtime gf when she was 17 and I was 21. I cannot speak for the rest except that neither a 16 or 17 year old is a child. Get real 🙄

That used to be the legal age for marriage only if you obtained parental consent. Because nothing says you are an adult who can make your own choices like having to get mommies and daddies permission. They've raised it to 18 recently if I'm not mistaken.

Been there though it wasn’t my intention really, we just bumped into each other and happened to like each other. It’s not as great though as it sounds, at least my experience wasn’t. Maybe some people like to groom but that’s not my cup of tea. While I’m not conservative regarding age gap and such it convinced me to look more carefully at how mature people are before getting myself involved.

I'm not denying that men can't have a similiar reation as women, but I'm starting to wonder if that is a socialize reflex, because being even remotely accused of pedopholia is basically a social death sentence.
The problem is that instinct and what is social norm doesn’t match. Society got regres at this point - there were used to women in age of 14 giving as wife's to much older men and they were having kids right after marriage because the faster woman has kids the less dangerous it is for genetic mutations problems. Now times changed but instinct not so it's became unacceptable

The only argument that I can think of that would justify such a stigmatization is that the brain is still developing, but then we would need to raise the legal age too if we want to remain consistent.

Considering how dysfunctional big part of generation Z are becoming I'd say it is definetly warranted. Throw in a state financed sabatical year on top of it and we might give those children a better start to figure themselves out before they have to make life defining decisions.
No one is going to protect you from yourself though. And who defines maturity levels? You can bump into a lot 30 or 40 years old even who aren’t that mature if maturity equals responsibility, and who even think of themselves that they aren’t that mature.
Plus, we all need to keep the child in us alive to not become dead walking robots over time. But that’s another topic in itself.
I don't think that having inner child exclude being mature and take responsibility. The society unfortunately is getting more immature year after year and treat everything to lightly. I have example of 4 generations in my family and trust me there is massive difference in maturity between them in particular age ( when for example all were 15 and what they felt and thought). I have first kid in same age as my oldest sister who's going to be 50 soon, and if I compare experience, it's big gap in life level and preparation. Of course my child has everything she needs, but my sister was way ahead in life than me at this point. That's just an example. No one here is saying kids aren't having sex before 18 with other kids.
What we are saying is that adults that target children for sexual relationships are wrong. Why is this so hard for people to wrap their heads around?

It’s not only about hormones and sex. I met students in France who had the best degrees you could imagine, but they lacked a lot of common knowledge. It’s not only basic knowledge that is lacking, like how does the internet actually work and how much of an impact a blackout of more than two days would have to a society like ours that depends so much on electricity, but they also asked why there were so many flags of different nations visible on that particular day. It was D-day.
It shocks me a little that especially topics like history, philosophy and politics are neglected in school. How are you supposed to develop critical thinking like this which is the very foundation of democracy?
