I think there should be an added tax on clothing, food, etc on people who are obese and morbidly obese.

Declining health obviously isn’t a steep enough consequence for them.

All of these cowardly excuses people have today. It runs in my family, hypothyroidism, depression.

It’s laziness.

Thats called discrimination. We can't have that.

Tax the F outta the high fructose sodas and saturated fat pre packaged foods. Thats whats causing obesity and all the niceties that come with that.

Introduce a sugar tax on everyday food and beverage items, use its revenue to subsidise organic food and make it more affordable to more people

And also use it to fund farm to table programs at schools and other educational programs for kids and adults alike.

Their doing this somewhere already. New Zealand I think? Can't remember.

I've been talking about this for awhile and it is a great idea, the only problem are junk food lobbyists. We'll have to attack them politically as well as passing the above legislation. I also thought of giving some sort of tax benefit to those who eat/live heathier for a fiscal year.

But the original idea is bad for multiple reasons. There are plenty of people who wear larger clothing who aren't even overweight...

Only a narrow minded moron would think it's as simple as that and fail to see that obesity in the US is systematic.

Subsidized farming has most of the country's agriculture tied up on products that supply to companies that make processed foods. Whether it be ready-to-make foods to livestock feeds that make your quarterpounders. And who are the target consumer? The low-income bracket. Cheap production makes for cheap food. That's why healthier options are more expensive.

So you're gonna financially stress the already poor?

It not difficult to eat healthy food cheap. People are cheap and want convenience.

If you are poor and struggling it very well can be. I can tell you, because I eat it, but organic lean meat tends to be dollars more expensive compared to unhealthier meats. Same can be said for a lot of veggies. And don't get me started on healthy fats and oils compared to butter. 🙄

Also there is still a lot of miseducation or lack of knowledge on how to eat healthier and what to eat, especially for people in struggling economic areas.

Not that you would know any of this or care...

So eat not organic meat and vegetable. Still healthy more than kraft mac and doritos.

Those things tend to still be cheaper though. Again why not increase price and/or tax unhealthy foods and lower healthy food prices instead?

Money is needed to get vegetable to your table.

Reduce price of vegetable, who eat the cost?

Farmer?

Truck driver?

Store?

Just so you can have cheap vegetable.

Ok I get what you're trying to say. It is economically feasible w/o hurting the farmers....obviously. in fact I'd argue what's hurting farmers more atm is the reduction of regulations to protect lands from corporations to stop them from dumping waste and destroying crops. Or certain groups using cancer causing pesticide that finds its way into crops that we eat.

The Scandinavian countries do this, plus sugar tax. Fast food? You pay roughly 20 euros for a big Mac meal.

Edit : should be US $ 20+

This was the price back in 2013.

Ikr! In Japan the cost of eating out is really expensive, it's like a treat. And people still wonder why 30% of Americans are obese.
