Posted by QueenofthepheasantfairiesJust update your fire alarm. The newer ones come with a built in carbon monoxide monitor.
Why do you not have a carbon monixide monitor. Perhaps it's time to get one. Any critical forward thinking person would have one.

How much did it cost?
Everytime I go to work I sneeze alot and get sick. The vents there dont really get cleaned at all. When I'm home I'm good. But soon as I walk in. Damn.

Make sure you completely recover because it sounds like it was a long exposure.

be more careful moving forward
that's one reason i think it's nice to move from furnace to radiant heating

Glad you're still with us, P. And that you shared. Nice reminder to be vigilant with and not put off the homeowner checklist. Wishing you and yours a speedy recovery.

What are you going to do in the meantime? It's the weekend approaching...What kind of survival techniques are you doing?
Sorry you have to go through this this time of year, this month so close to Christmas.

Posted by P-AngelYou should check out Colorado. Beautiful year round imo. And even when it's cold and snowy it's still sunny because of the high elevation.
We've looked in the Carolina's .. but, haven't found anything yet.
the problem is that my husband loves hot weather and I love cold weather ... so, that limits our choices.
We've lived in the inner city, by the sea, in the suburbs, on top of a mountain, on a farm ... so, we've really lived a good life. No matter where we go, we will happy just being together. Just like we have been for the post 34 years we've been together.
He would like to move to New Orleans, but, that's way too hot for me. But, I can deal with it for a while, if it will make him happy to hang out there for a couple years.

Posted by P-AngelI read somewhere that Walt Disney's parents died from carbon monoxide poisoning and that's why none of the Disney movies he produced featured parental figures 😢
My husband and I (and pets) have been pretty sick of late. Not severe, but, constant headaches, nausea, fatigue. My vision has been getting blurry, we've both gotten really forgetful, or/and hard to concentrate sometimes.
This morning I woke up and the house was cold, the furnace kicked itself off and the pilot light would only flicker for short periods and go out.
We called a professional in and found out that the furnace stopped because massive carbon monoxide was flooding in from a crack in the exchanger.
A CRACK IN THE EXCHANGER !!!!!!!!!
People die from cracks in the exchanger all the fucking time.
I almost woke up dead this morning.
Thank goodness for Bryant Furnaces .. mine cutting off today saved our lives.

Those CO detectors (and fire) need to be checked at least monthly. Every home should be required by law to have them installed. Get plenty of fresh air.

Posted by P-AngelI'm partial to Colorado Springs which is these two images above. We did. Just after I posted several hours ago ... we went on a hike up a trail (we live in the mountains). It was cold but, greatly needed to get our lungs deeply inhaling the brisk clean air

The tech suggested that and he believes this to be true ... however, we have the house on the market, so will just put in another furnace, same btu's ..... there's no real adaptions, just wiring and connections.
We will certainly be more careful in the future, and when we find another primary residence.

Posted by cheekyfaeriethat's what we have. we have check ups, which we pay yearly for. so maintenance comes all the time to check up everything.

plus, i can use this to build a stronger case to convince scorp that we rip out the furnace and go with radiance heating for the upcoming renovation. it's not gonna be an easy sell since it's not insignificant but i sure will apply my sales skills lol
and good luck on finding a new homeclick to expand

Glad you're OK. I'm sure the pets knew what was up from the start and tried communicating to you.
They probably did know. In fact, they have been spending more time outside than normal and wanting sleep outside too ... so they probably could sense that carbon monoxide was wafting through the house.
We probably would have died if the furnace didn't cut itself off ....
But, I've died before .. so it wouldn't be the first time I would have woken up dead.

I don't even understand the point of this thread except to seek pity.
You act like you're a victim of life, and should be pampered because your head hurts while you are home.
You want to be rewarded, it appears .. you are ill prepared for life that you can't even handle having a simple carbon monoxide detector to protect your family.
The only person who treats you bad is yourself. You never required of yourself to have common sense.
If so, then you're probably a shitty person, who lacks the ability to understand the basics.
You haven't described anything in here that is so terrible that you need the support of people ... the only thing happening to you is life. Except of course for you being so out touch.
You have the maturity level of a 12 year old ..... and it's people like you who are the ruining of our world.
That's the best I can do for you ... I have no use for mentally weak people who hide behind excuses.

Posted by P-AngelClearly your thinking is still off....Posted by cheekyfaerie

Thank you, my dear 🙂
We will definitely put more thought into something like this in the future .... because I literally had been having bad breathing problems.
My poor Virgo ...... he was really suffering with head pressure and pains. Sometimes, he said he couldn't even see the pain was so bad.
I literally kissed my Bryant Furnace for saving our lives.
