My father is highly intelligent. Genius level, and he has practical knowledge and thinks for himself and has a heart. Cool combo, and rather rare. They don't have to match him IQ point for point - that isn't what it's about - but he wants to be understood when conversing, at the very least.

I love Mercury in Virgo in my friends who have it. Analytical at it's finest meaning it isn't just conceptual, it has practical applications.
Also lots of different kinds of 'smarts'. I know peeps with doctorates who can talk intelligently on all sorts of subjects that go flying way over my head. Yet they need help tying their shoes... Zero street smarts.

Lol, while we're on the topic of mispronounced words, my step-dad sometimes uses the word "mines". It drives my mom crazy. Also, "ain't" and using double negatives are my moms favorite things to put in a sentence.
Just to clear anything up, they're not "stupid" by any means, it's just that grammar was my step-dads least favorite subject, and he slips up sometimes. He's actually pretty smart, and quick to pick up on how to do something. My mom is the same.

It surprises me how that can be, but it seems that many people don't read much, and/or what they read often contains many mistakes (Youtube comments, for example). So they pick most of their language skills up largely via spoken word.
I agree that if she wants to be a teacher, and she's in college, those kinds of mistakes are particularly surprising. There must be a very lenient view in many colleges, in North America at least, because it's hard to imagine that her essays are written without such mistakes.
I went to the same school she's currently at- they are not that lenient. It's just the overwhelming dumb that the professors have to tackle. High schools are failing to properly educate kids because of standardized tests. Now, the ignorance is being passed on to colleges to remedy and they have to create remedial programs just to catch up these kids to collegiate level stuff. It was something discussed by multiple professors of mine when I went there. They're essentially having to babysit and reteach at a college level and it's fucking ridiculous. They also have to spell things out in the syllabus or in requirements for projects- "Double check spelling. Do not plagiarize" etc. It's like really? This has to be taught at this level??

But as I said previously if your needs and desires are not understood by your partner then misunderstanding occurs no matter how intelligent the other person is and the relationship is doomed to failure.

Double negatives are terrible because it makes you appear to look like a dumb, backwoods hick when you speak like that.
I know grammar isn't everyone's strong point, but simple stuff learned in elementary school shouldn't be misspoken or misused in writing. That is one thing I have never been able to wrap my head around. Some of the more complex stuff, sure. That was MY biggest issue with English class when I was younger. But basic shit you learn before 4th grade? I cannot understand why those basic concepts escape so many adults.
But nationally, isn't like the basic literacy level like 4th grade or something? The national IQ average is also pretty low too, something like 90. It's kind of shocking.

Your example you gave is kind of backwards. Of the articles I just came across, many of the guys piping up in the comments section (and in some of the article topics) placed dumb women as good lays or ones to date, but not ones to settle down with. That's what I've usually heard from guys as well. The examples you gave are total trolls though. I have heard a few flip it like that, but they're insecure douchebags that shouldn't be allowed to reproduce.

All men like smart women because they are witty and talk dirty in bed and are just very sexy in general. The only reason men go for bimbo is that they come across the crazy feminist/psuedo-intellectual type of women.
Men who say they like dumb women to make their ego feel better are suffering from so many other personal things. A succesful guy generally wants a woman who is respectable and adds to his prestige and standing in society.
The psuedo-intellectual women are fond of saying that men are threatened by them as way to compensate for their egotistical and judgemental personality. The smartest chicks are often unaware of their intellect and it makes her 100 times sexier.

There really isn't an equality issue here. The problem is the assumption that a guy who is with the dingbat immediately has insecurity issues, or is intimidated by women of equal or higher intellect. That's very judgmental.
Equality in a relationship isn't measured by intellect. Or rather, not on intellect alone. Equality is obtained by complementary differences, and harmonious similarities. Understanding each other's needs, willingness to compromise, and equal give and take. One's capacity to love, feel, and express themselves and the other's ability to understand those things. There is so much more than just intellect that goes into the equality of a relationship.
I've seen a-many intellectual woman get passed up for the bubbly pretty girl. I know how much it makes steam come out of their ears, especially if it's a guy they're interested in. They believe that they have SO MUCH more to offer than those girls.

Intellectual women are warriors. They take on the world with their emotions protected under their armor, and wield words as weapons. These women are certainly appreciable, and many are VERY attractive to boot. When you come home though, he wants you to put down your cerebral weapons and armor and attend to HIM, not the world. He needs your laugh, your smile, your gentleness, your femininity. The occasional Jeopardy opponent is welcome, but usually not every night.
I'm not a big hang up on grammatical errors. Slang, though, especially hip/hop or 420 drives me crazed.
