I say summer. But that’s because I love the ocean. However, I’ve never been that north in Cali. Only LA, Palm Springs, and the southern coast to San Diego, which is full of beautiful beaches in every city. Laguna Beach is a favorite. I actually wanna move to cali. Thinking Encinitas, but it’s sooooo hard to choose!! I love it all. Have Fun!!

Have you been to the Philippines, particularly Boracay and Palawan?

Yep. I'd like to know how Cali beaches compare to Boracay and Palawan... I've been to these places so I'm just wondering...

Lol no they don’t. Just googled them. We don’t have crystal blue water/islands!! Just coastal oceans and rip currents. If you love to surf or swim under/over waves, Cali is the place. It’s much rougher waters, but I enjoy it. some beaches have a lot of seaweed tho. Much more in the Pacific Ocean than anything I’ve seen in the Atlantic Ocean. I still love it. You just get used it. And I’d love the Philippines too!! Looks amazing. But the Cali vibes are something I’ve never seen anywhere else!! Get ready to ride a bird!! 😁

What can you say about SoCal’s scenery? Also, I get Spanish vibes on SoCal’s coasts and beaches. Since they have plenty of beaches and the prevailing architecture is similar. Is my impression correct?

Based on my little knowledge of Spanish vibes, I’d say yes. I think it depends on the city too. Delmar seems a lot more Spanish style than San Diego. It’s a beautiful drive those. Along the ocean the whole time from city to city. And then I drive to and from Tucson, Arizona. Very unique road trip. Love the west coast. Sometimes I fly into Cali. I live in NY.

You can come anytime, San Francisco area is always cool year around.

Because it sits on the bay with all the water, it doesn't get extremely hot.

September and October are the best moths because of the Winter solstice (longer days) The weather is great and they call it indian summers, because of the long days.

Right now with the time change it gets dark around 6pm.

I live 30 minutes from SF

Edited to Add-

Los Angeles is easier to fly to from here instead of drive, it will cost the same in gas and save you tons of time. It's a 7-8 hour drive, the cost of a plane ticket can be around $ 100 round trip and it's just a 45 minute flight.

Vegas is a 4 our drive from Los Angeles, if you want to make a well rounded trip.

San fran is about 8 hours from hollywood (LA) by car. San Francisco is expensive and is nice but theres not much to it other than golden gate bridge and alcatraz.

LA is alright too if youve never been. Id go to the beaches like venice or santa monica pier. Hollywood is not what you hear or see. Its basically a run down place but the usual tourist atractions are nice like chinese theater, walk of fame, wax museums

Where do you live?

San Diego. Im an LA native tho. Soon to be moving to Washington State. Glad to be leaving this forsaken place.

Is there a lot to do in San Diego for the New year? I just book a room there.

Dont know the details. Theres usually music festivals all around and the downtown clubs get interesting. Imo the biggest thing happening downtown is in the clubs. Nothing compared to LA or SF tho.

I was in San Francisco last year and didn't realize the hotel I stayed at in union square had nothing going on outside. I was too far from the wharf and had a late dinner at at a steak house, so we crashed the hotel party. But I like outside activities, not into packed, stinky club scenes 😢

But thanks. I have a hotel booked in Reno too, so I might head there since it's closer to me, just planning ahead and checking out my options.

All the "popular" places with the hotels are the places you want to stay away from when visiting San Francisco. You get a much better experience if you know locals that can show you other areas that are lesser known. Unfortunately the city has just become white washed and it's all starting to become the same but there's still cool spots.

I'm up in San Francisco weekly, since I live close. I go to a lot of music spots but those are too packed on the New Year and I refuse to pay a $ 100 cover charge for a cramped, stinky, loud time. I'm just looking for a cool New Years spot and I've done Monterey and Los Angeles too many times.

Haha i like your style booking two rooms. I havent been to reno but its relatively quiet here and all there is is clubs. Theres not a big consensus on the downtown scene here just clubs

Can people just walk around the gaslamp district and hang out outside of clubs? I went to palm springs one year too but we just stayed on the hotel complex, they had a party in the lobby of the hotel, which was cool.

Haha i know outdoor public places are getting boring probably cause new generation and crazy stuff happening

Yeah you can hang out some places but its not very welcoming. Cops here are strict. They like to keep it safe i guess and every single little thing costs money unfortunately.

I just like free flowing in and out and bar hopping. I don't like cover charges and limiting to just one place for the night. I want freedom to roam 🙂

But thanks for the info, I will figure it out sooner or later!
