San fran is about 8 hours from hollywood (LA) by car. San Francisco is expensive and is nice but theres not much to it other than golden gate bridge and alcatraz.
LA is alright too if youve never been. Id go to the beaches like venice or santa monica pier. Hollywood is not what you hear or see. Its basically a run down place but the usual tourist atractions are nice like chinese theater, walk of fame, wax museums

I say summer. But that’s because I love the ocean. However, I’ve never been that north in Cali. Only LA, Palm Springs, and the southern coast to San Diego, which is full of beautiful beaches in every city. Laguna Beach is a favorite. I actually wanna move to cali. Thinking Encinitas, but it’s sooooo hard to choose!! I love it all. Have Fun!!

Yep. I'd like to know how Cali beaches compare to Boracay and Palawan... I've been to these places so I'm just wondering...click to expand

Lol no they don’t. Just googled them. We don’t have crystal blue water/islands!! Just coastal oceans and rip currents. If you love to surf or swim under/over waves, Cali is the place. It’s much rougher waters, but I enjoy it. some beaches have a lot of seaweed tho. Much more in the Pacific Ocean than anything I’ve seen in the Atlantic Ocean. I still love it. You just get used it. And I’d love the Philippines too!! Looks amazing. But the Cali vibes are something I’ve never seen anywhere else!! Get ready to ride a bird!! 😁click to expand

What can you say about SoCal’s scenery? Also, I get Spanish vibes on SoCal’s coasts and beaches. Since they have plenty of beaches and the prevailing architecture is similar. Is my impression correct?click to expand

Is there a lot to do in San Diego for the New year? I just book a room there.
Dont know the details. Theres usually music festivals all around and the downtown clubs get interesting. Imo the biggest thing happening downtown is in the clubs. Nothing compared to LA or SF tho.click to expand

I was in San Francisco last year and didn't realize the hotel I stayed at in union square had nothing going on outside. I was too far from the wharf and had a late dinner at at a steak house, so we crashed the hotel party. But I like outside activities, not into packed, stinky club scenes 😢
But thanks. I have a hotel booked in Reno too, so I might head there since it's closer to me, just planning ahead and checking out my options.
All the "popular" places with the hotels are the places you want to stay away from when visiting San Francisco. You get a much better experience if you know locals that can show you other areas that are lesser known. Unfortunately the city has just become white washed and it's all starting to become the same but there's still cool spots.click to expand

I'm up in San Francisco weekly, since I live close. I go to a lot of music spots but those are too packed on the New Year and I refuse to pay a $ 100 cover charge for a cramped, stinky, loud time. I'm just looking for a cool New Years spot and I've done Monterey and Los Angeles too many times.

Can people just walk around the gaslamp district and hang out outside of clubs? I went to palm springs one year too but we just stayed on the hotel complex, they had a party in the lobby of the hotel, which was cool.
Haha i know outdoor public places are getting boring probably cause new generation and crazy stuff happening
Yeah you can hang out some places but its not very welcoming. Cops here are strict. They like to keep it safe i guess and every single little thing costs money unfortunately.click to expand

I wanted to but was financially incapable. But looks like I have enough funds for a CA trip this coming 2020. I just don't know when to visit the state.
According to my cousin, his favorite season is autumn. Might as well visit in autumn, maybe late Sept - early Oct?
