A potentially bigger problem could be pilot training. Newer planes can (metaphorically) fly themselves, and the pilots may be qualifying and getting flight hours, but aren't preparing for the "what if" scenario.
I had many conversations with a long time pilot (ala Sullenberger) who expressed that concern 15 years ago.
