We pretty much all do...with 3 exceptions.

It's so easy to measure, so logical.

Definitely. In Canada most people state their height and weight in imperial measurements, though.

So many cute petite ladies on here... I feel like a giant.

179cm = 5'10" and a bit

Growing up I always wanted to be petite. I grew up in my dad's homeland somewhere in South East Asia where even the adults were on average about half my height. My schoolmates made fun of me, calling me coconut tree or lamppost. Didn't help that I had light brown hair and green/hazel eyes. Kids can be so unkind sometimes 😢

Then in my late teens I moved to my mom's home country somewhere in the western world. I wore high heels for the first time at 19 and loved it! 😄

Kids can be awful, so true. I had a friend who was a bit over 5'9 and she felt so gangly until her late teens when she started to feel more confident about her height and she stood up straight instead of slouching and did some modeling for a while.

That sounds like my life! I developed a curved spine due to all the slouching. I always felt like an alien, I looked so different from the other kids. I was desperate to fit in.

I only felt comfortable in my own skin when I reached my late teens. I too did some modeling. It was then I realised I could make some good money with my height and looks.

The friend I had felt the same way! She really turned it all around in her late teens and after and transformed in many ways. No one would think to make fun of her after that. Kids truly can be awful.

Amazing how many ugly ducking turns into a swan stories there are connected to taller than average females who are ridiculed when young then become highly desirable for the same traits when they are older.

Yes! I love stories like these too @CopperDove 🙂

Now that I'm a mother though, I can relate to Damnata's post above about her mum. My husband's 6'2", and his family is full of tall people. My son at 2 years is already bigger than his 4-year-old cousin. If his father gets his way, my son might grow up to be a rugby player and win the World Cup for England, and that's fine. But should I have a daughter one day, I might have to sit her down and prepare her for all the name-calling she'll get in school if she inherits our height...

It's so interesting with families and height! One part of my family was fairly tall (my maternal grandfather's). One of my great aunts was close to 6'.

It's good that if you have a daughter you'll be able to help her if she might face what you did in school. Bullying is atrocious. 😢

I'm 5'11" and 130 pounds. I'm very long and lean. My brothers say my torso is like a snake lol.
i don't know why i always thought of you being a big guy in the 200 pound range.

Lol I'm offended. I'm obsessed with my weight because I was a fat child hah. I would like to go back down to 120.

Holy, 120 lbs would only be a bit more than my 5'6 dad was at during marathon training back in his serious running days.

My father is 5'10 and my mother is 5'7. Idk what happened. : ( When I was little, my 6'5 cousin would always say "You'll be as tall as me one day!" and I was so excited. Haha.
But, with the amount of body fat I have, I would look like a noodle alien if I were tall.
"Noodle alien" is a good description, haha. 🙂

I really like how petite women look and wish that it was standard to have models of all heights in magazines, etc.

I didn't even think of that. I wonder if that has something to do with me thinking tall women are pretty.

I think it would probably make a big difference if there were petite women in fashion magazines, etc with clothes made to fit them well.

In the past there were lots of very famous petite actresses who were in the top lists for most beautiful, such as Natalie Wood who apparently was only about 5 feet tall but wore heels so she was listed as taller in some descriptions, but still petite (5'2 or 5'3).

6'1''.

Sometimes I wish I were taller.
How tall do you sometimes wish you were, and why?

About an inch and half taller, no specific reason though.

It's probably due to a fascination with the number 19. My birthdate is 19th/1990 so I secretely wish I were at least 190cm.

My old cellphone number also had a double 19 in it.

I can understand that because I'm interested in numbers too, and studied different systems of numerology. 19 is a good number. 🙂

I agree, I think it's more realistic to have different shapes and sizes of women modelling clothes, especially in magazines. Women want to see what the clothes look like on someone who closely approximate their body shape and height, not a 6 foot 120lbs teenager.

Back in my modelling days I often was surprised when I hear fellow models who say they're too big and their agencies told them to lose weight. These girls were not fat! In fact even the so-called "plus size" models today are not quite representative of real women. They talked about wanting change and having more diversity in the modelling industry back then, but more than 15 years on, it's still the same!

Sorry for the rant, this is obviously a touchy subject for me :/

When I was little my dad and step sister use to make fun of me for being a shorty and hold things just out of reach so I can't grab it.

I comparison they are about 150-155cm.

I'm 4'10... i'd share my weight but people tend to freak and think i have some eating disorder, even tho i'm within my bmi.

The only upside is fitting into small places, and not hitting my head on shit.

Lots of negatives..Getting picked on relentlessly in school, not being picked for teams, constantly feeling like i had to prove myself physically to be accepted.
Always thinking any person attracted to me is also a pedophile. ha. Shopping in juniors at 30 because petite clothing looks like shit my elementary school teachers would wear. Um, not having big tits...there is probley more but i just woke up. lol

So idk as i have gotten older i don't get as pissed at retarded comments...but i've come to terms with it. My boyfriend is 6'5, and he is the only person i've dated that treated me as an equal and doesn't try to baby me.- I think if your an extreme in any direction- skinny vs fat- tall- vs short, your going to be a target for criticism, and judgement.

Well described!

It can be hard with the negatives.

One guy that I was friend with said that petite women he had known were usually very energetic and feistier than average to compensate but I haven't seen that with all of the petites I've known. Have you?

Same with my weight. I'm ~ 95 lbs. People aren't used to scaling down for small size and in my case finer bones.

I'm having an easier time finding attractive non-matronly or kiddy petite clothing than I used to. I have had things custom made for me by people who sell their designs on Etsy.com because most of them don't charge more to change the fit of the clothes that they make to suit different sizes.

Great point about being extreme in any direction and being a target. Cool that you are with someone who understands that first-hand!

I'm 5'7" and I'd like to be shorter. When i was dating it limited options because I hated feeling "larger" than a man. Just didn't feel feminine to me.
It's been so interesting for me to read the comments on this thread, with similarly sized people wanting to be taller or shorter.

A 5'9 friend I had sometimes dated men who were about her height or shorter but she never felt entirely comfortable with it for the reason you described, and other women don't mind. It seems to be more accepted for the woman to be taller than the man than it used to be, but mostly I see that in the celebrity world.
