self deprecation comes in various forms ...i think you made a very astute observation.
wasn't meant as a jab... Self deprecating humor sets a light tone imo. Ppl realize you don't take yourself or them too seriously (online) so there's no point in personal attacks.
I also think it should be disguised to an extent, because if one truly believes it, it betrays a lack of self respect.

This is basically what I do. I don't take what other people say seriously online. They don't add true value to my real life, so why would I hold anything they say about me as valuable? I don't, therefore their words about me has little to no affect on my emotions.
