Man.. Americans are fierce about tipping eh? :/

I never understood it.. they bring you food.. they don't even make it.. yet get more of a cut than the actual cooks. There are tons of professions out there that deserve tips yet do not get them.. so why is it a requirement for a waiter or waitress?

I hear people saying.. oh they live off those tips.. WTF?

They make a wage just like everyone else.. And everyone else is expected to live off that wage with no tip..

I don't get it..
Thanks for showing you ignorance,in most cases that job is payed less and people who do it try to make it up with tips

I had a friend who worked as barman, suffice to say a supermarket worker earns much more then he did and he had a rough schedule

How does that make me ignorant? Pisses me off that is how someone is viewed for having my opinion. Dude.. there are tons of min wage / low paying jobs.. not just waitress, yet they are the only one that seems to require a tip? Ya'll act like waiters are the lowest paying job on the planet.

The grocery store clerk makes min wage.. do they get a tip when they take groceries to the little old ladies car?

The guy at Walmart who just took the huge ass tv out to your car makes min wage too.. did he get a tip?

I could go on.. but the point is that there are TONS of people with low paying jobs.. not just waiters and waitresses. I've worked lots of low paying jobs with no tip and worked a heck of a lot harder than walking a plate of food to a fkn table.
The waitress is more than just someone bringing your food. They can make or break the whole experience. They also can help upsell products thus making the company more money.

They are the faces of the restaurants. When people have great service then tend to be repeat customers who give great reviews online again making more money for the company.

Yes, it's the total experience.

If people want it to be just about the food, then go to a self-service kiosk or order in.

Lol I even tip the restaurant when I order delivery + tip the delivery guy.
Delivery guy can take it? :O Restaurant share

I tip them both. When I order online it'll give me the option to tip the restaurant. And then I usually tip the delivery guy in cash.
So 10% for the delivery and how much for restaurant?

10% for restaurant and % 15/20 for delivery.

First reaction- fuck no, don't tip her.

But then again, their lack of money is why they're behind, so not tipping her takes away from money for the day, which could hypothetically be going toward that rent.

But at the same time, bitch owes you.

Tbh, there are a lot of people like her in the industry. It's quick, fast cash and there are people out there who just never grow up and spend it all at the bar after work. Always some sob story when the reality is they can't manage their finances for shit. I have a coworker who's a deadbeat tennant too and he's always crying to us about how terrible his life is. The reality is he's a man child that has shit financial responsibility and expects everyone to cater to him.

...don't tip her. Eff that noise.
Reading this thread I get a meth vibe from her (the waitress behind on rent).

lol......unimaginable in Europe for a takeout tip....i give them an euro, maybe two, but it's generally a max 20€ order anyway, because it's just for one 😛

*shrug* I used to be a struggling 20 something trying to pay my way through college. I like to pay it back now that I have the $ $ too.

Also the delivery is separate from the restaurant. Since I'm ordering off grub hub or yelp they use a separate delivery service. Poor peeps are probably paid a shit hourly wage plus wear and tear to their vehicle plus gas...it's a wonder they break even.

I always end up tipping, even if the service stinks. A shitty waitress will get 10% but a decent one will get 20-25% even if the food was terrible and slow to arrive. I understand that the server has no control over the kitchen so an apology and good personality goes a long way.

At the casino, we get paid a decent wage but also make tips. We don't have to split but if I get something large, I usually share. I consistently earn much more in tips than my coworkers. I feel that it is all about karma. I tip well so I get tipped well. I give away money so money comes back to me.

It's also because I am actually nice to the customers.

Either way, serve her the eviction notice. Whether she's spending your money on meth or overpriced bags she's still spending YOUR money.

On a side note, 3 months rent for 1500!!! That's so cheap, is it a studio or 1 bdr?

No. $ 750 monthly so she is 2 months behind. Every month they pay something but never the full amount so the past due keeps growing. I'm sick of their crap. They always leave it in the mailbox because something came up and they have to leave right before I get there. It is never the full amount. They just don't want to face me when they only have $ 300. I am not unreasonable either. I have offered to let them pay weekly to catch up. They always have excuses.

The taxes just went up again. I'm not making much money by only charging $ 750 to begin with.

And it's a 5 bedroom, 2 bath house! I could easily charge more.

Wow crazy. A 5 bedroom 2 bath would go for 3600-10,000 here, depending on area and finishes. Get those bums out of there and get a qualified renter in. Someone who can prove income 3x's the rent.

I don't get it..
I don't get it too! This is some fuckery american culture stuff!

My Pisces sister tips and is too generous.

Its crazy. I don't always tip, sometimes I will tip on special occasions. When I give its 2 $ maybe a little bit more sometimes.... Mayyybe!

" they live off those tips "

Terrible argument. Some places, some people can double and even triple their minimum wage with the tips only..

They make a fortune with their tips!

I know it because I used to deliver pizza when I was 17! lol. The tips were unbelievable sometimes....

Waitress makes more and keep more in their pockets, they don't have a car to maintain, No gas and all that....
I hope you get the special.
?
Service industry justice. 😄

If you tip well, they remember. If you don't, you're opening yourself up to their personal preference of wrath. Especially if you're rude/smug about it.

But thats the chef / cook tho!

A waitress takes your plate and brings it to you.... That's it. They don't make the food!
They're frontline staff. If customers/patrons aren't happy with the service/quality of food, they will be the first to hear of it/get an earful.

The customer can make their lives a living hell if the cook doesn't do a good job or the waiter's service skills are not up to mark.

They will also be the first to go if business is bad.

Similar to marketing executives and salesmen - they are supposed to 'sell' a restaurant's image by making a customer's total experience (atmosphere + quality of food) worth every cent he/she is paying. So it's not just about the food.

I wouldn't go back to a restaurant if the service is bad, even though the food is good. Rude serving staff + long waits for your food can really ruin a good meal for me.
Nice try buddy... but NO!

" they will be the first to hear it "

Could be true if the boss is retarded. Boss needs to talk with the cook. But boss and managers are stupid, they will complain to anyone. Im not paying more because humans are retarded... Not my problem...

" customers make their lives a living hell "

Happens sometimes and that's why they are paid to work.... This shouldnt even happen. They need less interactions with the customers...

Stop asking the same questions while they have food in their mouth? " how is your food sir? " "is everything okay?"

Fucking annoying when I have food in my mouth and you come and ask me the same questions, every 2 minutes....

I will let you know if I need something / my food is cold... Don't worry about that... and stop disturbing me!! Lol.

Trying hard to sell something eh! That's awful manipulation.

You don't have to "sell" something if the quality is there. It will speak for itself.... Enough said.

A restaurant is pretty much just for the food to me. Atmosphere can be nice too, but we all go to the restaurants to EAT!

and maybe they should stop disturbing me so I can admire their beautiful atmosphere / restaurant! ...what do you think? 😉

I would go back to a restaurant if the service is bad. Just Take out the food with me outside or Delivery at my place! Its about the food.. I don't care.

You can't debate / argue with a Libra! We are the Judge!

And this is where you and I differ in terms of perspective.

it sounds like they need to talk to you about their problems.

of why they are behind, maybe they got caught in medical bills or something terrible.

but they need to move out and get a cheaper place than to keep being behind. and then offer to pay you back little by little since they have no money it seems.

unless they are drug addicts.

edit I would never make a good landlord, I would be TOO compassionate if they gave me a sob story, and I would just let them off too easy.

Nah, it depends where you work... my sis makes the same but at a tourist high end place and makes between $ 150- $ 300 a day. If you only work 3 days a week or a really crappy place then yeah you will struggle.
It's all about volume. I've worked in both types of places and it's night and day. Old place was crappy and slow. New place is insane in its daily profits compared to old place. My income doubled at higher volume place, obviously.

I will play nice cause I don't want spit in my food
this unfortunately was best decision ?
That doesn't make sense though because tipping happens AFTER the food is dropped and consumed.

Unless one chooses to go back, which in this case, I doubt she would.

yeah i just figure it was probably best to avoid confrontation in public if any chance. idk the situation so it's definitely a tough call haha Idk what I'd do personally til put in that one i think and even then it would depend on the person. sounds like these tenants dont even have the respect to communicate with her and honestly at that when they do, so that would drive my emotions up for sure.

i might leave 10% if that and feel good about ANYTHING i gave them. they should be grateful for anything anyway as i see it haha.
