I could have told you that.

Maui is basically the worst place to go in the entire island chain.

It was even like that when I lived in Hawaii back in the 80s.

It was a toss up between Maui and Kauai. Honolulu seemed too Cali. The disappointment began when we were descending and majority of the island looked like a vast desert. I honestly don't understand what keeps bringing people back here besides their overpriced timeshares.

Kauai shuts down even earlier then Maui.

I thought Maui was the best.

Did you rent a car? That's the best way to see the island. I searched for hidden beaches and stayed away from the touristy ones. I also looked on yelp and found local places to eat, cheap food trucks, and things like that that the locals ate at.

This food truck was amazing!

I even visited the flea market over there, lots of locals there.

Edited to add -there's a cool area that tons of locals hang out and it's an open air shopping area near a restaurant called Fat Daddy's Smokehouse BBQ. There's a Skate park near it.

I'm in Maui. They outnumber the locals like crazy, like 100 to 1 and it's not even peak season.

Plus the scenery isn't all that special. It took me as long as flying to freaking Europe to get here from Texas when the water is prettier in the Bahamas minus the poverty.

do they behave entitled or what is the reason you mention it?

why did you decide to go to Hawai? 🙂

I am thinking lots of people travel to poor countries where they can feel like gods (whereas in their own country they are loosers), not only white people

the locals were outnumbered a long time ago.

And I'm pretty sure there is poverty in the bahamas

I meant to say the Bahamas have poverty not Hawaii. Hawaii obv gets funds from the Feds. Even the sea turtles are federally protected. It's really clean here and there are barely any cops it's like you only see them when they're being hired for events or someone's dying. Locals in general who work here seem so slow like sloths. There is an extremely chill, slow paced attitude. And it's like they shove all the youths in the tourist entertainment industry.

Apparently Kauai and Maui have some of the best beaches but most of the beaches in Kauai aren't accessible like they are in Maui. I really wanted to do the open door helicopter tour of Waimea Canyon to Napali Coast but we didn't have time for both islands. And they have some really good scenic trails but I'm deathly afraid of heights so it would've been such a waste 😔

We rented a car and it's been really convenient. Parking for Kaanapali beach was such a headache. I like Big Beach and Keawakapu beach esp since we got a condo in Kihei. Where did you stay?

I can't eat any seafood but it's been difficult to find hula girl cookies for some reason ?!

It's not that they act entitled or anything. It's just there's an overwhelming number of them here versus any other race. I'm pretty sure I saw more Indians than locals too. I know white people are every where but was just a little startled by what an extreme minority the locals are here. Kind of seems sad?? And I meant to say Bahamas has poverty, not Hawaii. Hawaii isn't poor. It does feel like a whole other country mostly due to how far away it is from majority of the mainland but it is definitely overhyped. We chose Hawaii because I've been to Alaska, the Bahamas, parts of Europe and we were just curious about Hawaii. See what all the hype was about. I didn't want to vacation in a generic state like California like every other person. But I don't think I'll be coming back to Hawaii. Not sure. Definitely will tho if someone else pays for it next time xD

Almost all the development is on the leeward side, and yeah, the leeward side of all the islands will more dry. The windward side is beautiful, lush, and green. The drive into the mountains is also very beautiful and is a lot more green.

That's true. The road to Hana and Haleakala seem like the major things Maui has to offer in terms of nature. Only takes a few days to enjoy those so I still don't understand what brings many people back here repeatedly or lure them into buying overpriced timeshares. Cali and Florida probably give better views and options for investment whilst not requiring traveling over the sea??
