So apparently there is a transgender woman (so born male, transitioned to female) who is going to be competing in the Olympics in weightlifting. In order to be classified as a woman by the IOC, you only need to prove by testing that your testosterone levels stay under a specific low threshold for the twelve months preceding the Olympics:

"Under current guidance, which the IOC updated in 2015, trans women athletes' testosterone levels must be below 10 nanomoles per liter of blood for at least 12 months before their first competition..."

What are your thoughts on this?

The difference between first place and second place at that level(Olympic) can literally be a fraction of a second. Razor thin would be a understatement.

How these sports are CURRENTLY structured and graded, I can't in good conscious agree with this.

You would have to create another division. Otherwise the natural course this would take would naturally knockout biological woman.

All sympathy for trans people but I feel they should have to forgo the opportunity to compete in strength focused sports until they get their own division. It's not fair on the biological women. Male weightlifting standards at an elite level are approx 30-40% higher than women's, so there's a huge scope there for a trans m-f to outperform the best biological woman

Also, "However, as low testosterone causes a decrease in mass, the function and strength of the muscles do not diminish, according to the findings of a 2016 review ." So just because a trans female has low enough test now in order to pass the requirements that doesn't mean they won't still be benefitting from advantages of being biologically male

It’s grossly unfair

The Olympics are also banning biological females who have "too high" testosterone levels. So you can't have it both ways.

This is a good point to remember. Women are being banned for being naturally genetically superior to what's considered "acceptable." So by that logic, Usain Bolt should have never been allowed to compete. Lmao. Athletes should never be punished for having whatever advantages they have purely from genetics.

In this case though, I think there is valid reason to protest.

In the long run, mixing 'cis' competitors with transgenders isn't going to work, due to points already addressed.

Many are going to feel robbed by these PC/woke decisions. It's only a matter of time before someone begrudges a transgender winner and assassinates them. Mark my words.

I doubt there's going to be an assassination, it's not Mossad. I think people are sick of having illogical decisions being thrust in their face. In the UK we had drag queens give a talk about equality to primary school children (under 11s), one of them was later arrested for being a paedophile. Or the children's book group were someone dressed as a monkey with a giant dildo flopping about in between his legs.

Personally I have friends who are gay, bi, lesbian and know a few ts people. I've zero against people as long as they don't do anything illegal, but I am against trans (mtf especially) sharing changing rooms with women as well as prisons, also against trans competing against biological women. It's interesting how you rarely hear about female to male competing against men. I would be in favour of an all trans Olympics. The only way to do it is to make it camp, have RuPaul or Jean Paul Gaultier present it. I would watch that and I don't watch the regular Olympics.

I think I've got my wires crossed, the paedophile was in America as part of Drag Queen Story Time.

Olympics and Paralympics have had allowed trans athletes to compete since 2004.

So are you really bothered? Is the rest of the population bothered? Or is it just because it’s in the news cycle that you suddenly care.

Cause for 17 years… crickets.

Now suddenly people care about women’s sports. Really?!

If y’all care so much about ‘fairness’ then where is the outcry for equal pay. The wage gap between male and female sports is astronomical.

It’s not really about being ‘fair’ to women. It’s about your trans hate. Just calling it like it is.

So what's the argument if Laurel doesn't win the competition?

Hmm good question. But I mean how likely do you think it is that that will happen considering Laurel was born as a man?

I don't know. How big are the other girls? It's weight lifting. She probably won't even be the manliest one out there.

She has a chance to get a medal, not gold tho.

She’s ranked 7th. And took over 2 years off the sport during her transition. Plus she’s dealing with a serious elbow injury that took her out of the sport for awhile.

In the studies, after 12months- 2 yrs on hormones everything becomes neutralized. Except trans women run 12% faster then the average cis woman. Which may be alarming until you realize to compete at this high level you need to run 59% faster than the average cis woman (for track events).

I am loving how the first trans woman soccer player is just super under the radar. Cheers Quinn.

I've noticed it's mostly cis straight men who are hysterical and have the strongest opinions over this. Did anyone even bother to ask what women think? LOL!

And no, the sun spot riddled hags from Fox News dont count.

It’s the biggest self report ever.

Such frail masculinity to be threatened by this. And yet if we were to look at their internet history I’d bet they love themselves some trans porn. Ijs.

Well don't tell everybody else that. They think we're gearing up to watch Thor in a cocktail dress beat up Tinker Bell or something 🤣

I know, I know. Better optics if the hetero man feels needed and can exercise his savior complex. Save us wilting feminine flowers 🤣

Even tho, you know, all we are asking for is bodily autonomy and equal pay.

Looks like she failed all 3 attempts. It's nice that she was allowed to perform in the Olympics being transgender, but I wonder if she botched all of her attempts.

Just to be able to compete as a transgender but not to have anything count against her if she actually won.

I mean how did she make it all the way there and not be able to perform at all?

Seems like she botched it on purpose and stayed out of the backlash and controversy of it. I think it was a smart move, IMO

I'm just confused with the cognitive dissonance that some people have with science. Theoretical science towards Covid is Gospel.. yes, we know everythingwe need to know after 1 year...... Science pertaining to the million year old knowledge of human biology and chemistry.... up for debate..

Studies have shown that the brain of transgender individuals resemble the brains of the gender they identify as from an early age.

Studies have also shown men naturally have more testosterone in their bodies. Tests have shown men have Adam's apples while women do not. Studies have shown a transgender man still has ZERO chance of getting prostate cancer. Studies have shown transgender females have ZERO chance of getting ovarian cancer, getting pregnant, or menstruating.

We have to get out of this make believe land we've been in the past decade. Its UNHEALTHY.

🤔 I find it hard to believe they studied the prevalence of prostate cancer in transgender men. And women do have Adam’s apples. They are just not as prominent.

Nothing you posted really pertains to this matter. Although still interesting.

On this subject the main issue is male physiological development causes a more pronounced muscle structure then female development. Basically males have "more muscle" naturally. Testosterone levels does not effect this fact after the muscle structure has already been established. This is a huge advantage when the difference in first and even third place is minuscule at that level of competition.

I love the energy of making things fair for women. You know where you can start though? Start on equal pay. Then I’ll believe you’re concerned with making things ✨fair✨

At least in the US, that statistical fact as Proven to be wonky. There was a very good point made about that fact years ago.

Maternity leave can put a wet blanket in someone's career in a competitive field. To be fair, taking 3-4 months off at any competitive job will do that for anyone. As well as those choosing part time afterwards.

I would like to see a new study done were only the people being pooled with a similar background.

I suspect the difference would be negligible in THIS era.
