Simone Biles Had the "Twisties" During the Olympic Team Final - Here's What They Are-

The "twisties" means that you got lost in the air and the control you always had - or thought you always had - went out the window. "I had no idea where I was in the air," Biles said when recalling her vault, according to The Washington Post. "I could have hurt myself." It happens to gymnasts on every level, not just elite athletes, and ask anyone in the sport: it's terrifying.

I don't think anyone should be bashing Simone for backing out of the Olympics unless they can accomplish as much as she has with the pressure that she's had to endure. Obviously it's upsetting that she decided to back out. Everybody loves her for how well she tumbles and whatever. But if she felt her head wasn't on straight, trying to do the tricks she was going to do could've gone really wrong and hurt her team as well as herself, physically and mentally.

Also if anyone says anything like "she's not the GOAT for quitting on her teammates" or "she's selfish for backing out last minute" then they should try doing her tumbling passes and winning 30 Olympic and World Championship medals and then talk shit about her. Ultimately, she did the right thing taking herself out of the team final because if she didn't, she could've scored lower than usual and ruined the team's chance at getting a medal.

Not to derail but I think Russia still competing is BS—they literally just made a loophole. If their competitors were to compete, it should have been as individuals. I just think they completely got out of their punishment for years of taking medals while juicing. This and other things made me boycott the olympics this year—which was difficult for me bc omg Japan!!!! I just can’t support some of their decisions.

I love Simon. It really sucks to hear that happened to her. Really unlucky timing! My heart goes out to her.

Leave that poor girl alone. She's done more at her young age then most people have done in a lifetime. It seemed to me that most of the gymnist were having a rough time, not just her, so it makes you wonder what kind of shit has been going on backstage for her to get to the point where she couldn't concentrate. And yes, if her head isn't on straight then she can really hurt herself. She still did a great job despite her hiccups....and most ppl who are bitching about her probably can't even do a somersault.

I've heard some stories I don't really know what happened.

Didn't she twist her ankle?

The other story I heard was her teammates pressured her to leave the group comp but she was still going to compete individually.

No injury, according to her which she said at a press conference after the team finals. Her head just wasn't on straight and she was afraid if she continued to make errors, she would risk putting the US off the podium as well as physically injuring herself.

Can someone explain about her not being allowed to getting the max point because she’s so good?

Yeah that is very confusing, because that seemed to be a rumor right before she dropped out. Idk maybe its fake news, but something doesn't seem right.

Everyone wants to be like "YASSS get your health grrl!" But no, you don't become "GOAT" without a ridiculous amount of ambition, and competitiveness and determination that wouldn't let something like this go. IMO else something is up, and mental health is the distraction that everyone is applauding.

Was she required to do the risky routine?

Congrats to Suni Lee for the Gold though!

No she is that good all her routines break boundaries why they were not giving her max points to discourage.also with that rule it make me want to give the whole industry the finger. Routine Probably her coaches doing and she didn’t feel up to par.

According to her docuseries on Facebook only the male world champion is comparable to her.

“ What if the NFL told Tom Brady his touchdown passes will only be 4 points because he was too good? Or the NBA gave MJ 1 point instead of 2 because he scores much better than the other players? There would be outrage on ESPN, boycotts , death threats against David Stern, etc.

But when the Olympics imposed this on Simone Biles… *crickets…* DEAL WITH IT and compete. No petitions, withdrawals from the US Olympics Committee.

So, after practicing your routine for years, you must mentally and physically alter your performance to be appropriately scored to keep everything “fair”. And when you realize you don’t align with their “standards” you make the hard decision to not hurt your teammates score (who, btw, showed out yesterday!!) or risk your health in a sport where 1 bad slip can mean paralysis.

You’re labeled egotistical, overrated and most of all a “quitter” because you won’t conform.

In all honesty, the IOC quit on Simone. Not the other way around.”

The difference is that these routines are freaking dangerous, that's why they discourage her from doing them. When they started doing this stuff way back last century they had no idea that it would progress so far.

Yeah, maybe they should stop doing those routines if it's putting people's lives in jeopardy. No medal or fame is worth that.
