One of my parents' dogs won't go shit unless you take her on a walk, even though they have a backyard bigger than most dog parks. How do I make her go shit in the backyard?

The dog has been conditioned to go while on walks, not in the backyard. Can't get shitty about it when the poor thing has been trained to do this.
Just leave her out there, she'll eventually go. And when she does, praise her and give her positive reinforcement so she knows it's okay to go in the yard.
Super stoked you used that word. I thought it was just me. I used to walk dogs in nyc and the rich snotty dogs wouldn't go. And it sucked.
