I used to think the same way as you, grew up taking vitamin tablets and tonics often in my childhood till I came across a medical journal from New England Journal of Medicine 2 years ago in 2018 that revealed how the Human Body cells aren't made to absorb vitamins in their raw form just like the calcium deposits from animal sources can become too much for the kidney and get deposited as kidney stones. Unfortunately I cant eat Oranges anymore which sucks cause I live in Florida where Oranges are life. They are so good too. I also love Orange Juice. But it's the citrus in the fruits that does me wrong. I will get sores in and around my mouth and it will flare up my colitis if I have to much. I can't even chew citrus gum.
I have low Vit D too so I am suppose to take a Rx every week but I always forget to take it.
I could get Vit B12 shots at work but I don't often enough anymore.
Probably should keep up with it.

I have 1 cup of ginger/turmeric tea a day
If I feel like I'm starting to come down with something, I start taking 5,000 mg and eat a lot of leafy greens
