So I have been casually seeing a cancer guy for a couple of months now. We are not serious or dating we just basically hang out ever now and then or I’ll give him a ride to his friends or to work stuff like that. We didn’t really have sexual intercourse many times either so we’re more on the friends side than benefits side. Anyway a couple weeks ago I was under the influence and i was with him, he went to get a drink from the store and initially I said I didn’t want anything but when he went inside I messaged him and realized his phone was in my car and that he hadn’t saved my name in his contacts which I thought by now he would have. So I started scrolling through his notifications and I looked up and saw him. He said “you’re going through my phone” and I told him I was just looking cause I messaged him and he went back to get his stuff from the store and then when I drove him home he told me he didn’t like it so I apologied and tried to explain to him but he just walked away and told me to have a good night. When I got home I tried to message him and it appeared he blocked me from his iPhones cause my messages and calls didn’t go through. When I woke up I messaged him and all the old messages I sent were still not delivered but the new messages were going through. Throughout the day I kept messaging him telling him that I was sorry and I wanted to be good friends with him and then I stopped after I got no responses. 24 hours later he said were cool and then he proceeds to ask me to drop him to work... I know what you’re all thinking and I agree too, he is using me for rides and the convenience of my car. But that’s another topic to discuss anyway. We’ve seen each other non sexually a couple times since it happens and last night we were hanging out and we were talking about trust with family and friends and I said people generally trust me and he kind of blurted out that I wasn’t trust worthy and I felt bad that he said that because I feel like it has to do with the incident with his phone. Are cancers typically the type of people to hold a grudge forever and never trust a person or is it possible that over time he will trust me and we could actually be friends?

I don't mean to come off rude in anyway but you guys won't be more than what it is now. He is using you for your car and the convenience of it. I mean you said it yourself, your messages weren't going through and when you called it probably went straight to voicemail or rang once and went to voicemail. That's a sure tell sign he blocked your number... but then unblocked your number as soon as he realized he needed you for a ride and knew you would at his beck and call. He didn't even save your number and you guys are "friends". He never saved your number and you guys have had sexual intercourse. He didn't save your number and you gave him rides. Ditch him. He sounds like a loser anyway. You can do so much better and deserve to be treater better. Don't worry about if he's going to come back or not because truthfully I don't think it would ever be genuine. Guys that I am friends with or actually interested in get their numbers saved in my phone. All others I just don't see the point really because it's probably going to fall off anyway! I am a cancer and it takes me a while to get over things but I do. I don't hold grudges because that negative energy is draining.

Consequences are mean when the action was lean, but if the intent was unharmful, the record could be wiped clean.

Repetition is key for repercussions to stain, don't do it again and your friendship may remain.

You shouldn't of went through his phone. Family, friends or dating, it's a violation of private property unless permission is granted. It's a forgivable offense, but how would you learn that you should not do it again unless he showed some sort of angry retort?

being somewhat facetious but honestly, I just only date very jealous women (like attracts like I suppose) and I have never been in a relationship where we didn't keep each other in check from time to time....and by that I mean catch the other person being somewhat hypocritical in dealings with the opposite sex - crossing a line that they would not want you crossing.....not talking sexual things, but as an example, I told my partner once I only communicate with my ex about my kid, nothing personal....but in reality, we're friends and we joke, sometimes help each other out....she snooped some texts one time, caught us throwing some jokes/memes back and forth, was super pissed....understandably....I should've been more honest about the nature of the relationship....

Eh, I'm not jealous. The Cancer probably is, and has some issues from his ex. Probably why I catch him going through my phone at times, or if I am on the phone he will loudly ask who I am talking to, and proceed to get in my face for kisses. I get the appeal of someone feeling possessive over me, cause I like it from him.

But I can't say I am really jealous with him. I don't have a need to go through his phone or care. I know his passwords and what not, but I just don't care because I am very secure in him. lol

And he's gone through it right in front of me, and I know for a fact he's looked at it when I'm ot there, but it doesn't bother me one bit. There's no lock on it whatsoever because I don't need a lock. Because I got nothing to hide.

If you need a lock around your SO, let alone multiple layers of security, then you got bigger problems than worrying about your phone's privacy.

I would have a lock regardless. I have a kid and tend to take adult-themed pics w/my SO etc. I also don't do the whole open access thing with partners either. I know a lot of people do and that's great, but when I've had situations like that, it just didn't work out. I always find something that bothers me, blow it out of proportion, and vice versa. I feel people should have their own private space and nowadays, I consider a person's phone to be almost an extension of their brain/mind. I doubt I could trust or stay with anyone if I could actually sift through their most intimate thoughts throughout the day, and I don't really believe in fidelity at that level from my experience. Would rather we just lend "trust" to one another, and keep the romantic illusions alive for as long as we can.

Here is the dilemma here....

You want an emotional connection and to be in a solidified relationship with this Cancer man... but you're taking a passive aggressive approach to make that happen. Accepting the position of being 'currently friend-zoned' just as long as you remain in the picture. Offering him car rides is just your excuse to see him and spend time with him. Deep inside you already know this.

Because he's a Cancer, and they're naturally intuitive by nature....he knows this as well.

He sees all your passive aggressive attempts and eager to please favors as a desperate means to an end to solidify your relationship with him.

He doesn't respect you.

You're not even a possibility.

You're an after-thought.

I wouldn't be surprised if you were listed under someone else's name.

He may have a significant love interest who may check his phone.

It's a little strange that someone who 'uses' you for rides would not have your contact information saved.

My advice,

Stop trying to breathe 'life' into a friendship that never existed.

He's not a true friend.

I'm sure if you really needed something... he wouldn't be there for you.

You will never be more than what you currently are, a harsh reality to accept, but one that needs to be seriously considered when moving forward.
